My problem with it is that it's not about whether you or I care about the All-Star game, itself. Making the All-Star team is an honor for players, and as such, it should be earned.
Lots of fans, like myself, care about seeing our players make the All-Star team, and when you see guys make it for no actual valid reason, it makes the whole thing cheap which, in turn, has the opposite effect from what MLB wants, which is more interest. Brewers fans will like this, but I think most people are just turned off by the selection process, myself included.
I used to like the game, even though it's meaningless. There was just something special about it that other sports have never had in their All-Star (or Pro Bowl) events. But now, I have zero interest. The fan involvement kills the starting lineups, and the rest of the players are selected without much thought.

Misiorowski is mesmerizing to watch. If MLB had any idea what they were doing, they would door promote the heck out of his starts.

Suarez turned it down.
Sanchez from the Phillies pitched on Sunday and the NL isn’t taking anyone who wouldn’t be able to pitch in the game.
Apparently a caca load of other pitchers turned it down too. Players don’t think about this like fans, to a lot of them it’s become a PITA.
They took this guy because they needed an arm to fill out their staff, nothing more or less.

quote:Thanks for the link Underwood. I scrolled down but didn't see it in Tiger Droppings. I guess time will tell whether this is a lame or legit "selection", in quotes because of scheduling conflicts for other pitchers.
Just bumping this, guy is legit but its lame to give it to him after 5 starts

What’s a Jacob Misiorowski ?
Is that like a Harvey Wallbanger?

Fewer interleague games would make the All-Star game matter.

This is a joke, big arm, no control.

He’s a young up-and-comer with exciting stuff. I do think there were other guys that deserved it more than him but the game is meaningless and I’m somewhat surprised that organizations let their arms throw in this thing. Now if you’re talking other guys getting fricked out of bonus money for All Star appearances then that’s complete bullshite and something should be done.

Pitching 102 mph strikes ain't no liability son.

Clayton Kershaw got a sympathy nod. He's 4-1 with a 3.3 ERA
If Ripken was on the ballot, he'd probably start.
