This dude is head and shoulders the best player the Mets have. Last night he basically carried the team. Only scattered 2 runs on 6 hits and drove in a run himself. Why is he still with the Mets?

Not a Mets fan. Just watched the game last night.

Because he agreed to play for the Mets.

Agree is misleading. He did agree but only because that's how the system is set up

His agent said he was willing to sign an extension.

He has thrown 13 straight quality starts. He is 2-7 over those 13 starts.

And we can start talking about him legit choosing to play for the mets if he ends up signing an extension that eats into his free agency years

The Yankees should have made an offer the Mets couldn’t refuse. By all means I’m glad they didn’t but they should have

Except not really

Degrom was drafted by the mets and can only play for the mets through 2021 unless hes traded. Hes not really on the mets though his own choosing. If he does actually sign an extension that goes longer than 2021, than he will be. But he isn't as of now

My apologies. I amend my response. He was drafted by the Mets and agreed to play for the Mets.

yes. Because not agreeing to do so would have made things much more difficult for him. So yes, he did agree to play for the mets. In the same way that Baker Mayfield agreed to play for the browns. Can we both agree that there's a legit chance neither of those happen if Baker of degrom had the option of choosing where they want to play like they do through free agency?

The mets did actually make the World Series recently, and have as many WS appearances in the past 10 years as the:

Dodgers and their billions spent
Cubs
Yankees
etc

So it hasn't always been hell.

They were stout in 15. But that lineup is putrid. Bautista has fallen off a cliff. Frazier hasn’t done much since he won the derby. Austin Jackson has the best average in the lineup at .250. I get he’s the best the Mets have... but I can’t help but wonder why no one has made a legitimate offer to get him.

Maybe we can just agree that it was a dumb question and let it be.

He should win the Cy Young, granted he keeps this up, but I doubt he will because of a losing record, and shitty team.
