St. Louis has been having attendance issues.

Well since Bregman doesn't play for the Astros anymore I couldn't care less about the Astros

I saw that, very surprising. Is it a protest of sorts against the decision to stand pat and do virtually nothing this off season, including keeping their coach?

I mean that fan base was always a condescending "we know our baseball better than any other fan base" group, but they were always loyal and always showed up. Was curious when I saw the half full stadium early in the home schedule.

Been brewing for a couple years now. It’s intentional. A fan referendum on Mozeliak and Marmol. Tough to watch but can’t blame the fans. Team is playing hard, too. No win situation all around. And completely self-induced by the front office.

I’ve never heard anyone say this before.

They have a national following thanks in part to KMOX 1120AM.

Yup. Farthest south and west team for a long time and you hit the nail on the head with KMOX. Same reason there are lots of Cubs (WGN) and Braves (TBS) fans in LA from later generations.

**As for the condescension piece… it’s not the fans. There was a period of time (especially those late 00s and early 10s teams) where “the Cardinal Way” rubbed other fanbases the wrong way. Guys like Chris Carpenter, Yadi, etc that were loved in St. Louis but villains everywhere else.

You’re right you crazy bastard. I always thought it was “brick red and navy” but it was brick red and black.

Someone remind me why this move was made?

MLB wanted the same number of teams in both the AL and NL. They made it a condition of the sale of the team from McLane to Crane that the team had to move to the AL.

Well, the Punisher would have at least two rings if the Astros* were in the NL.

Nah, he would have choked as he always does.

Astros never belonged in the NL Central. If they're anything NL send them to the West. Brewers are fun rivals in the NL Central. They belong there more than the Astros.

I don’t know about this one. Astros fan since Nolan pitched for them. I do miss playing the Cubs and Cardinals, but the American League has grown on me. Now the rangers have heated up and we play the Yankees and Redsox more. Those wins over the Yankees were priceless in the playoffs.

I'd push back a bit on this...of course their fans don't think they are condescending - I mean they are nice, but in my experience it's in a "oh bless your little heart" kind of way....and the "Cardinal Way" extended a bit to their fanbase in that regard.

Grew up going to the Dome in the 80s and 90s with my dad. nothing better than the 2:15 NL game with no DH. It was all about strategy when your pitcher was going strong in the 7th or 8th and was due up to bat with runners in scoring position in a tie game. They had guys like Mike Lamb that would get 300 ABs a season in a non starter role.

He would always have games on in the car and we would listen to Milo. The good ole days.

My first MLB game ever was in the Dome - 1973 - Doug Rader hit two homers but the Stros lost to the Mets, who would go on to the World Series that year...good memories of going to games sat the "8th Wonder of the World".

Ole Milo was a character. He was forever bitter that the Cubs hired Harry Carey as the thought that job was his alone. It was a no brainer decision that is still paying off for the Cubs even today, but Milo carried that bitterness with him the rest of his life, and he'd always sneak not so veiled jabs in about the Cubs and Harry almost every chance he got during broadcasts.

Owner of the Brewers was the Baseball Commish at the time and the sale of the Stros to McLane was only approved if the Stros move to the AL and the Brewers to the NL. Never forgive that mfer for that.
