Yes. I remember when he first broke out it would legit look like he skipped a frame or two on tv while running.

If by Lance Alworth you mean Bob Hayes then yeah, you have an argument.
Bob Hayes is a player from the past who has always been an enigma to me.
He averaged 20-yds/rec (and that includes a few years later in his career when his production waned), but only had three or four catches a game. Everyone agrees he was uncoverable, but he never had a lot of catches.

Only guy close is DeSean Jackson

Just looked at Bob Hayes stats. Wild!

Everyone that watched him agrees that “he was a game changer”, he was “uncoverable”, or he was “just on a different level”.
However, no one can explain why he didn’t have more receptions. I’ve seen highlights, but I’ll never understand why he wasn’t thrown 10 bombs a game.

He now has the most career 200+ yard multiple TD catch games of the Super Bowl era.
If he gets 2k yards and 15+ TDs this season is he top 5 all time?
It would put him over 10k yards and 80 TDs career
Could be.....he may also only have his one Super Bowl ring when he retires, the one he got with KC.

Lance Alworth has to be in this debate

Back in the 70's Mel Gray for the St Louis Cardinals had a fairly high average yard/catch of 18.9 yards

he was in a pretty modern offense just about always.
Moss played his entire productive career without being protected by the "defenseless player" rule and only played one season with that rule in place. He had been out the league 4 years when Burfict laid out Antonio Brown and started the de facto era of non-violent hitting.
He didn't play in the three yards and a cloud of dust era, but his most productive years were in a game miles apart physically from what Hill plays in today.
That said, Hill is the most edge of your seat electrifying player I have seen since Barry Sanders.

I think there is a size and strength element to explosiveness. Some potential candidates are probably:
Randy Moss, Tryreek Hill, DeSean Jackson, Devin Hester, Jerry Rice, Steve Smith & Megatron.
Jerry Rice is not one of the most explosive players in NFL history. His mastery was his route running, hands, work ethic, and football IQ.
Posted on 9/12/23 at 10:36 am to CatfishJohn
That is correct. Jerry Rice might have not been the most explosive but he was the best wide receiver to ever do it.

Moss was like watching a video game come to life when he played for the Vikings.
Throw in all the shite that defenders could do back then and no way Hill is close.

My dude, Moss was a vertical/sideline guy. He didn't have to worry about head hunting. In fact, that's how you gave up TDs, so nobody was head hunting Moss in his day.
Silly argument.

He's probably the most explosive athlete the NFL has ever had in terms of speed/burst/agility.
Eric Metcalf would like a word.
For those who never saw him play. Eric Metcalf Highlights

Can you imagine Tyreek coming over the middle and getting laid out in 80s / 90s with his puny build. He would have been electric for about 3 games per season and then injured.
Posted on 9/12/23 at 4:46 pm to VABuckeye
Terry Metcalf was even better than his son.

I'll agree to disagree on that one. Eric was more versatile. Plus he played for the Browns.
