It was a pretty historic night.

quote:

It's not the most field goals ever attempted, as Wilt Chamberlain attempted 63 shots when he scored 100. But since the stat started being tracked officially in the 1983-84 season, no one has ever taken 50 shots.

Guess who had the most attempts in a game before last night, since '84?

Michael Jordan had 49 attempts in 1993 against the Magic, AND LOST. 64 points. 1 assist.

Bulls were up by 6 with 44 seconds left and lost. MJ had a crucial turnover and also let his man Nick Anderson hit a 3 to tie it.

Y'all are acting like he shot 25% last night. Taking 50 shots and making 22 of them is not that bad.

Not sure why you brought up MJ.

But are you really comparing a prime MJ who was taking shots all year to a 37 year old Kobe who was playing his last game?

Are you comparing an out of the playoffs Jazz team to a Shaq lead Magic team?

My point was everybody on both sides of the court and the refs did what they could to help Kobe chuck. So it happened.

Normally it would be. In this case I have no problem with it.

how did the season end for Michael? And the rest of the Bull's team took 58 shots combined. Kobe took almost 2/3 of the Lakers' shots last night

Kobe homers don't want to hear this but I could not agree more.

Jazz smashed these guys pretty much all season, and all of a sudden Kobe goes Kobe? Come on man, it was all manufactured, partially by the Jazz. They knew they were out of the playoffs by tip-off. What could be gained from them embarrassing Kobe and the Lakers on their big night?

44% shooting is better than James Harden did this year. It's right around middle of the pack for qualified guards.

Not incredibly efficient, sure, but not bad either.

You realize the Jazz dominated the game until Kobe took over with 5 minutes left? It was a double digit lead most of the way and the Jazz were up 8 with 2 minutes to go.

In case you haven't noticed the lakers roster is garbage. Kobe won that game by sheer will.

I know. I would have a problem with Harden taking 50 shots if he was shooting at his average clip this year.

But I have no problem with what went down. Not going to pretend it was anything more than it was though.

Did you watch? They were by no means dominating. The difference is Kobe got hot at the end.

The Jazz did not just let him do whatever he wanted. I'm not going to sit here and say they played great, but they played good defense on him down the stretch. Hayward was on him for most of those last 17 points

and when you score that many points, yeah, your team does do whatever they can to let you keep shooting.

The 60 points isn't what was amazing about last night.
It was the final 17 points he scored, not the 43 before. If he had only played the 4th quarter and ended the game with 23 points, it would still have been an amazing performance.
5-5 from the field, 2-2 from 3, 4-4 from the free throw line, to come back from 8 down with 3 minutes left. No one let him do that. He did it b/c he wanted to and they couldn't' stop him.

Never. Best ever

Going out by giving your team their 17th win in an 82 game season is impossible to top.

Imagine if someone ever ended their career with a championship?

They were probably 8 down to begin with cause up to that point Kobe was shooting 17-45 from the field.

It's easy to differentiate Lakers fans from Kobe fans.

50 shots

Has there ever been a more apropos ending to a career for a player.

Not the score, not the win...but the above.

This should be made into a Bruce Springsteen song (50 shots) with Kobe's teammates standing on the sideline in Philly.
