The NFL was better as a Running Back league.

Terrell Davis is in the HOF w/ 7600 yrds. Superbowls probably
Plus a 2000 yard season. Which to this point has still only been accomplished 6 times. He also was league MVP. 2X Offensive PoY, and 3X All Pro.
No hate on Fred Taylor, who was really good. But he had 6 more rushing touchdowns than Davis in twice as many games played. Davis' HoF credentials are unfairly discounted for the most part. He had a very short, very productive career.

Hey I really like how TD played and yes his career cut short. I didn't mean to downplay what TD did, but longevity ought to mean something especially since Taylor's career productivity.

but then you compare Zeke's stats to Terrell Davis and by that standard Zeke is a shoe-in.
Davis isn't in because of his career rushing totals. He's in because he has 1000+ rushing yards and 11 TDs over the 97 and 98 playoffs, coupled with a Super Bowl MVP.
If Zeke does something like that, then we can start comparing him to Terrell Davis

Priest Holmes and Terrell Davis careers have always somewhat reminded me of each other, and no questions playoff performance has distinguished one.
2001-2004 Priest Holmes put up 7,645 total yards and 76 touchdown in 4 years. Just an insane stretch and comparable to Terrell Davis career numbers.

Yeah, it's kind of amazing what Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson did over short spells only to be completely washed so quickly

Shaun Alexander the biggest snub imo. Guy has 112 touchdowns and isn’t in the HOF.
plus he had nearly 11K total yards (9,453/1,520) & a MVP

Larry Johnson
I think I had forgotten his existence until just now. The guy who momentarily redeemed Penn State rbs.
The 2000s filled with a lot of guys with insane peaks - priest Holmes, Larry Johnson, Jamal Lewis, Chris johnson.

Mark Ingram- No
Melvin Gordon- Relegated to the practice squad and can't hold onto the ball so no
Zeke- No especially not now
Derrick Henry- Maybe
Christian McCaffrey- Maybe
Alvin Kamara- Maybe
Jonathan Taylor- Maybe
Nick Chubb- Maybe
In conclusion maybe the last 5 guys will get in Derrick Henry is the most likely either way none of these guys should get in on the first ballot and the running back position in the NFL is on life alert they're a dime a dozen nowadays.

Ridiculous that he is in. Fred Taylor has the same YPC and 1.5 times the yards. Davis is 58th in all-time rushing yards. The only impressive stat Davis brings to the table is he is 3rd all-time in YPG, but Clinton Portis is 7th all-time, and has 2000 more yards and isn't in and likely never will be.

Running back is one of the hardest to determine who is HOF worthy. Very few get in due to steep drop offs. Not many have multiple all pro nods.
A case can be made with Henry if he has 2 more dominant seasons. Normally only 1 rb per 5 year generations get in. For example, faulk to LT to AP.

Arian Foster had like 3-4 consecutive amazing seasons too.

Another crazy Hall of fame snub is Mike Alstott. How the hell is not in yet??

Maurice Jones-Drew belongs in the thread

Maurice Jones-Drew
Very underrated.
11,111 yards from scrimmage and with 79 RR TDs. Also had another 2000 yards and two TDs as a kick returner.
If he gets drafted by the saints in 2006 or found himself in a andy Reid offense he is probably a HOFer.
Speaking of Andy Reid creations, Brian Westbrook belongs in this thread if Maurice Jones drew is in this thread.

What about LeSean McCoy? I would say he had a better career than Westbrook and Jones-Drew.
Posted on 3/2/23 at 5:40 pm to MintBerry Crunch
I would take Ricky Williams before any of these maybe except for Henry. People dont realize but he still had over 10,000 yards rushing with the years he was away from the game.

Henry
Mccaffery
This is probably the right answer. Henry feels like a lock at this point, and IF McCaffrey stays healthy next season, he'll go over 10,000 career yards (rush + rec) and be somewhere near the 70 TD range. That combined with his awesome highlight reel should be good enough, I think.

The only RBs with a track record in the league I feel have a chance at HOF are Derrick Henry(best shot of any), Nick Chubb, and Josh Jacobs. McCaffery has too much of an injury risk for me to be comfortable including him. There is such a logjam of retired running backs who need to be inducted first--Steven Jackson, Otis Anderson, Roger Craig, Frank Gore, Marshawn Lynch, Shaun Alexander, Adrian Peterson, Leshon McCoy, Corey Dillon, Ricky Williams, Fred Taylor, Eddie George, Chris Johnson, Priest Holmes, and possibly Ahman Green and Jamal Charles. There aren't a lot of backs in the league on track to have the same career as those guys and they are still waiting to get in . (Admittedly Gore and Peterson just haven't been retired long enough to be eligible. They should get selected the first year they become eligible.)
