He is 2nd in BCS teams during that time in total wins and winning percentage.

according to this, texas is actually third LINK
course that all depends on if USC has to vacate wins or not

In the last ten years, Mack has been to four Holiday Bowls, one Cotton Bowl, and one Alamo Bowl. Yeah, despite those other BCS bowl appearances, he has grossly underachieved.

Or you could say he has been to 4 BCS bowls in the last 6 years which is more than anyone else I am pretty sure.

The Holiday Bowl was 3rd in the Big 12. Nobody in the SEC calls the Cotton Bowl a chicken shite game...and that's USUALLY where a 3rd place team ends up, sometimes CapOne (if there are 2 BCS teams), and sometimes Outback...so the Holiday Bowl is a solid upper-tier non-BCS game.
Also...I feel bad for the people saying Mack has underachieved and saying they are glad they aren't UT fans.
That is a team where every year, you have a legitimate shot to win it all, not necessarily because of how easy the conference CAN be (because when Mack got there, the Big 12 was the toughest in the league), but because Mack recruits well.
Funny how they say Texas is easy to recruit and win with the resources...yet since Darrell Royal, Mack is the only one who has taken advantage.
Are the Longhorns supposed to be missing the Mackovic, McWilliams, and Akers era?
You could make the same argument that it's easy as hell to recruit at LSU, but prior to Saban, some coaches found that tough.
I would love if my Tigers won 10+ games every year for damn near a whole decade. No SEC school can match that, scheduling aside.
And as far as Mack underachieving...what other titles did he piss away? I would say they choked away the Colorado game in the 2001 Big 12 title, which basically saved them from an asswhooping against Miami in the Rose. A couple of the OU games they probably should have won on talent alone. Otherwise...he is now 6-6 against the Sooners. The shite that went down in 08' has nothing to do with Mack.
So to put it in perspective, if Texas gets the tiebreaker, goes to the title and beats Florida, are we having this discussion? Is the bar now set at winning 2 championships? Do you realize how mediocre Texas had become under Mackovic. The dude lost to UCLA 66-3 at home for crying out loud.
Mack Brown has fully restored Texas. I would take him over Les any day of the week, and that's not meant as a knock on Les.
In the SEC, I would see him only behind Saban and Meyer right now, and damn near everyone else in the country is behind those 2.
It's funny that some fanbases are so spoiled and think that the Longhorn program as a whole is overrated and underachieving.
So I ask...what were they supposed to do recently to erase this stigma?

If you judge them by their record against other elite programs, absolutely not. They've owned Alabama. They've dominated Oklahoma. They're 8-1 against Nebraska since joining the Big 12. They are without question one of the eight elite programs in the history of CFB along with Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska. Definitely not overrated.

They just aren't a championship winning school. Yet, they have more all-time wins than just about any school in the NCAA, so it's hard to say that they are overrated.
ETA: They are second in all-time wins behind Michigan.

Where did you get your information? While it's true that Texas only has one football NC in the BCS era, they have 4 total.
People tend to forget that prior to the existence of the BCS, Florida had only 1 football NC (1996). Their program is viewed as a powerhouse, yet they've only won 3 football national titles.

Mack seems to only have his true success when Oklahoma is somewhat having a down year. But that's just my perspective.

They are really talented. With that being said...their schedule contains of Oklahoma and then 11 Texas High School Teams. They're never battle tested and I think that leads to them being overrated a bit; however, they are still usually very talented.

I tell ya what. They can damn sure play with anyone in country anytime. They got some players.
Posted on 8/2/10 at 8:00 pm to Frankie Knuckles
the 2 most overrated, overhyped football programs in the last 15 years are EASILY Texas and Oklahoma ..

Before you read further, I'm looking at the Texas Athletic Dept as a whole, not just football.
When it comes to money, they are untouchable. That goes without saying.
But what do they get for it?
I live in Austin. I know the facilities. I know the campus. I know the fans.
-The fans don't care about UT. There is too much to do in Austin and UT sports falls back to #3,389. Of those that actually attend games, a very small minority actually know the game of football. It's a social crowd in most sports.
-The facilities aren't all that great. In recent years they have brought DKR from the stone age to not top notch, and their baseball diamond had the grass mowed recently and a new chain-link fence, but it wouldn't crack the Top 8 in the SEC. The basketball arena doubles as a staging ground for monster truck rallies and Disney on Ice, is 80 years old and pretty small.
-As for football, they played Arkansas and Oklahoma each year as their 'big games', then moved to a deplorably weak Big 12. They've dominated right? No. They've kicked the shite out of lower tier teams to the tune of 9 to 10 wins a year, then bump that up to 10 or 11 with a Holiday Bowl 'W'. One NC in 40 years? Really? With that recruiting ground?
Texass can suck my D***

between UT and OU .. the two have had a combined 6 shots at BCS titles and have 2 .. and that doesn't include the Sooners' BCS bed shits vs. West Va and Boise St. ..

So much fail in this thread.

Just my opinion, but I think they'd have a championship or two more if the BCS system wasn't around and the NCAA had developed a playoff. I'm not bringing up the deadhorse topic of bcs/playoffs, I'm just saying that in a system that gives more than two teams a shot at winning a championship, their odds go up.
