Jordan won a Finals game single-handedly with a 103-degree fever and the flu.

While # of rings should never be the main argument, I don't see why it can't be a plus in the favor of someone in a debate amongst all-time elite players.

No one is actually ever comparing Dilfer to Marino like everyone likes to throw out. But if you're comparing say Montana to Marino, it's hard not to put a big plus in favor of Montana.

Now if you're arguing over 1 ring vs 2 rings, you're just splitting hairs. But if we're talking about a difference of 3-4 rings, it certainly should be taken into consideration.

Peyton doesn't play defense (which is why this debate is stupid). Also, in basketball you play a series which decreases the variance. When playing a series, the better team usually wins. See last year for an example of a slightly above average NFL team winning the playoffs.

No, MJ is considered the greatest bball player of all time. At the end of Peyton's career he might be considered the greatest QB of all time, but he wouldn't be the greatest NFL player of all time by many mainly because he doesn't win enough Super Bowls. If Jordan wouldn't have left Bball for more than a season and a half, then they may have won 8 championships in a row.

My point is that his team is a big reason why he won those 6 rings.

Plus football and basketball are different sports with different league rules that affect parity.

It is easier to win multiple championships in basketball.

So comparing them by their rings makes no sense. 6 rings in basketball does not = 6 rings in the NFL.

The player with the most rings as a player in the NFL is Charles Haley with 5.

Off the top of my head, Bill Russell won 11 in the NBA.

I don't know.
Was Michael Jordan a 3 time Citrus Bowl MVP as well?

so Jordan was a product of good teammates, but Peyton won his all by himself? but he didn't win more because he didn't have better teams?

the manning fanboys are destroying logic right now

It's just completely different games. If Jordan supporters say Peyton doesn't have the rings, why can't Peyton supporters say the bulls without Jordan went to the playoffs while the Colts went 2-14 without Peyton. I don't believe either argument carries any weight, but that's my opinion.

h, the rings argument.

So you don't think there should be any correlation between the amount of rings MJ has, and his accomplishments outside of the finals?

Peyton
Unitas
Brady
Montana
Favre
Brees

If only going with quarterbacks.

If we are going by # of rings won by quarterbacks then

Montana-4
Bradshaw-4
Brady-3

Wrong. Smart people don't use a team accomplishment ( Super Bowl wins) to judge an individual's place in history. Football is the most team oriented sport in the world. There's 3 phases of football used to win a game and PM doesn't play on two of them.
