re: Is Larry Fitzgerald a top 5 WR of all time in your opinion?

Top 6 in receiving TDs, top 2 in yards and catches. Probably a top 3 route runner and top 3 best hands. It's a no brainer. Plus he's the ultimate pro. Been fortunate to catch him live twice and no matter the record or score he's going at it. Not to mention he's got more career tackles than drops.

Top 5 career but I don't think he's one of the 5 best receivers of all time if that makes sense.

I think it’s impossible after Rice and Hutson to say.
I mean the intra-decades of WR don’t even compare fairly due to rule changes etc.

He has all the stats of a Top 5 receiver (in fact he only trails Rice in most) but he played in the easiest era to be a Wide Receiver.
And I don't remember anybody saying, oh we need to shut-down Fitz otherwise we'll lose.
He's less Moss and more Tim Brown...tons and tons of great stats and people don't really remember the highlights.

Rice is often though of as the top player in all NFL History, but Hutson held that honor for the league's first 50 years. He, Sammy Baugh, and Otto Graham were in the conversation for that prize back then.
Hutson's record 99 touchdowns were not surpassed until 40 years after his retirement. When he hung them up, he had more receptions than the next two players combined.

I'm a Steelers fan and even I say, "huh?"
Stallworth and Hines were both better then Swan. Way better.

quote:Swann made the most acrobatic pass receptions you ever wanted to see before people started making these highlight reel pass catches like the 1 handed grabs and all. He was doing all of that stuff back in that 70's era making really difficult pass catches look really easy with incredible concentration, dude is a pass catching legend no matter what people say. He may not have put up better career stats because he didn't play as long as these other receivers, but if you feel he's in your top 5 then he's in your top 5.
Lynn Swann

quote:You tripping if you are a real Steelers fan as you claim because the only thing Stallworth and Hines had over Swann was that they both played much longer careers, thus producing more numbers career wise. But Lynn Swann made them both look like regular pass catchers the way he caught the football, that dude had much more talent at catching passes than a Hines Ward or John Stallworth ever had. Lol That's why he's in the HOF and a pass catching legend even with such measly career numbers.

Bob Hayes?

People don't remember the highlights? The season the Cardinals almost won the Super Bowl he was on a GOAT level that postseason. He basically carried them by himself to a title if not for an all time game winning drive from Big Ben.

Yep. If you compare Fitz in the post season (his few appearances) vs. Moss, Fitz actually was a more significant contributor to his teams. Even at the age of 32 in the 2015 playoffs, Larry Fitzgerald showed up big averaging over 100 yards per game.
If not for Ben-Holmes last second TD, Fitzgerald is possibly the Super Bowl MVP.

This can't be an actual football fan typing this. Fitz played on some godawful Arizona teams, but his playoff performances take a backseat to no one, especially in 2008.

I agree with this but he was playing against a bunch of stuffs. Arnie Hebner had a lot to do with his accomplishments as well. Where is the argument for him being a best ever QB?????

In terms of longevity yes
Idk exactly where he ranks all time but his career has been impressive.

And Marvin Harrison in the post season 16 games =65 catches / 888 yds & 2 TDs in 10 seasons of playoff appearances . 2 TDs ( only 2) .
3 / 71 yds - 0 TDs. 10 targets
5/ 65 yds- 0 TDs - 18 tgts
5/63/ - 0 TDs - 11 tgts
4/47 - 0tds- 8 tgts
16/250-2 TDs - 27 tgst ( 3 games)
9/95 - 0 TDs - (2 games)
3/52 yds- 0tds
15/193 yds - 0 tds - 33 tgts( 4 games)
2/27 yds- 0 TDs
3/20 yds 0 tds
Even with Polians whining & the NFL cracking down of contact with receivers Harrison was Hardenesgue in the plkayoffs/.

You downplaying Timmy Brown?
Who played on even WORSE teams than Fitz...and still got his yards and TDs...with terrible QBs.
Comparing Fitz to Brown wasn't a pejorative in my book.
Just that he did his job and caught a ton of passes and scored a lot of TDs...
But he wasn't Moss. Highlight reel freak.
I mean the single greatest play in Fitz's career is something Randy Moss and Jerry Rice did a 100 times.

Moss and Rice outran the #1 defense in the NFL on a 70 yard touchdown with 2 minutes left in the Super Bowl 100 times?
I'd take Moss and Rice over Fitzgerald, but downplaying Fitzgerald's career is laughable. Moss, Rice, and Calvin Johnson are the only three WRs I can tell you I would definitely take over Fitzgerald in his prime.

Difficult to compare different eras
Like most of his time, Hutson played defense, too. And he was a pretty good safety.
