If Warner is going to get into the HOF - then you better put Jim Plunkett in there ASAP.

He is the only eligible quarterback to start (and win) two Super Bowls without being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

People say, well he had garbage years with the Pats...Warner had plenty of garbage years in the middle of his career after his lightening in a bottle situation and start with the birth of the greatest show on turf.

Plunkett's story maybe better than Warners

His parents are both deaf or blind (can't recall) injuries out of league to what we saw at the end.

His parents were blind.

Plunkett basically raised himself and his parents...was a child laborer...worked after elementary school and all through high school.

He got a scholarship to Stanford and led them to their first Rose Bowl win over #1 ranked Ohio State since 1941.

He was drafted #1 to the woeful Pats and scrambled to not get sacked for the first half of his career. He tried to be the savior and threw a lot of picks.

He says that playing Arena football really prepared him to play in that Rams offense and thrive...I don't know if he goes anywhere else he has success at that stage of his career. He really bombed after leaving the Rams - and then found himself again late in his career.

Before Arena league, Warner was on the Packers squad in 1994 but was released in favor of Ty Detmer being the 3rd string back-up.

Over Warner's 10 years he only averaged 10 starts per season. He kept losing his starting job throughout his career as you mentioned.

He lost his job to Marc Bulger after fumbling 6 times in the season opener. The year before he threw 3 Tds and 11 Ints for the season.

Then he was traded to the Giants to mentor rookie Eli Manning...but was quickly benched in favor of Manning after 8 fumbles and 3 Ints in the first 3 games.

Then in his first year in Arizona, he lost his job to Josh McCown.

Then he regained it...

And then lost it again to Matt Leinart.

I guess Warner got in on the TD argument...few great and brief seasons - but TD like Sayers didn't provide the public with years and years of suckage to counter-balance the great.

I don't get how it took Stabler his entire life to get in...and they waited until he died, but it took Warner like two minutes after the waiting period to get in.

There is a lot of ESPN, Sports Illustrated, etc...staying in the public light and befriending and being collegues with these emotionally insecure NFL HOF voters who want to be pals with the athletes.

I mean Warner was part of the media fraternity after his career; Stabler was cantankerous with the media and so they blackballed him.

NFL HOF isn't remotely objective and like the stupid Heisman trophy...popularity, likeability, or hype can get you over the goal line so to speak...just look at Namath.

Just because people want to ignore these facts:
Trent Green also outplayed him in 2000, stat-wise.
- Better TD:INT ratio, better TD%, better INT%, better Passer Rating

2002: Warner plays like arse the first 4 games (1TD:8INTs), injured and replaced by Jamie Martin who was replaced by Marc Bulger. Came back and played like arse, so he was benched for Martin and then Bulger again.
Bench count: 1

2003: Apparently his hand had not healed, fumbled a million times and turned it over a million more and got benched for Bulger. Bulger led them to a 12-3 finish, 12-4 on the year. Bye Warner
Bench count: 2

2004: Started the season 5-2, great right? Well he had 64.9 completion%, 1539 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs, 90.3 Rating. In 7 games. SEVEN. The next 2 games, Losses and he was 1:3 TD:INT. Benched for Eli and the season tanked.
Bench count: 3

2005: Now onto Arizona. Started the season 0-3: 63.4 completion%, 696 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. Benched/Injured for McCown who leads them 2-4, lackluster 55.9 completion%, 1233 yards, 6 TD, 8 INT. Comes back in for McCown and plays okay for 7 games: 65.0 completion%, 2017 yards, 10 TDs, 7 INTs. Not average...or maybe just average
Bench count: 4

Signed an extension, given the starting job.
2006: Solid game 1 with a win, sloppy game 2-3 (62.8%, 615 yards, 2 TDs, 5 INTs 0-3 record). Benched for Leinart in 4th quarter of game 4. Leinart goes 4-7 the next 11 games with a lackluster 56.5%, 2493 yards, 11 TDs, 11 INTs. gets injured, Warner goes back in: 1 TD over 2 games.
Bench Count: 5

Kurt Warner's induction is a symptom of modern media.

If he played in the 70's - he would have come and gone and maybe a murmur through the 80's of potential enshrinment. And then - most would have said - nah. Member berries all those years he was one of the worst QBs in the league? Yeah, I member.

They probably held his 1980-84 seasons outside the Raiders against him, couldn't lead the 1980 Oilers(Earl's 1,900 rushing yard year) to the same success playoffs-wise and definitely was past his prime in his attempt to lead the Saints to the playoffs replacing Archie. Also, with the exception of 1974 and 1976(Super Bowl year), he wasn't a consistently good QB the Raiders defense and running game carried them to a large extent throughout that decade. That offensive line was AMAZING in creating running lanes.

It was the 70's - nobody was consistent - defenses were beating the crap out of everyone because they could.

"No, I mean, if you just look at how he played -- he's a Hall of Fame quarterback," Madden said when asked if he could think of any reason why Stabler wasn't enshrined in Canton. "We get caught up today in statistics and comparing statistics and you can't do that with different eras. For example, when we threw a medium range pass it was 17 yards deep. Now, a medium range pass is eight to 10 yards deep. We didn't have any of those smoke screens...and I'm not saying it's wrong, that's just the way they play today."

By definition, he's a hall of fame player because he was involved in professional football and was pretty damn famous as the starting QB for one of the most (in)famous franchises in league history that led them to their first Super Bowl victory, but that's neither here nor there.

Ask Staubach, Tarkenton, Ken Anderson, and Bert Jones if they were inconsistent in the 70s-those numbers speak for themselves to a large degree
