Looks like he's retiring.

While Julian Edelman showed up on the NFL transaction wire today as having his contract terminated by the Patriots, the expectation is that it is a technicality as part of a retirement, per @MikeReiss.

Edelman is, to me, a Hall of Famer.

His impact in the playoffs was undeniable plus he had 11 years of basically being Brady's go-to wide receiver.

If this is the end, what a career for @Edelman11 ??

3x Super Bowl Champ
2018 Super Bowl MVP
620 Rec
6,822 Rec Yds
41 TDs
7th-round pick
118 postseason receptions and 1,442 yards, 2nd-most in the Super Bowl era behind only Jerry Rice.

What a run.

Patriots Hall of Famer, yes. Pro Football Hall of Famer, not even close.

Not a Hall of Famer but he did have a really good career.

I doubt it.

But he’s a first ballot Patriots hall of famer and I’d expect the Pats to retire his number shortly as well. One of the best to ever put on a pats uniform

No.

Julian Edelman would be retiring at 34 with 6,822 total receiving yards

Jerry Rice had 6,518 receiving yards from the age of 35 and on, including his age 35 season in which he played one game

Nah he's not even close to HOF caliber. Was a really solid WR though.

His name will be discussed more than it should but the numbers are not even close and the numbers will prevail

If he had played for a team that won 3 Super Bowls 40+ years ago he'd be Lynn Swann, but no way now.

Pats have 6 Super Bowls and only have one HOFer so far, Ty Law. Brady and Gronk are locks but beyond that Rodney Harrison and Richard Seymour are on the list for this year but maybe that will be it.

For his generation of WRs his career numbers are like half of what the HOF caliber WRs are producing. I don't think his great playoff numbers overcome that.

HOFer is thrown around way too loosely

Vinatieri's probably a lock, too.

Still, arguably the greatest dynasty in the history of the sport, and they maybe end up with four HOFers? And one of them is the damn kicker?

Seems awfully light.
