I think the Raiders fans wished JR would have blown out his knees and never taken a snap. To me that is worse than Kijana Carter. JR hurt his team more by playing, which constitutes him being a bigger bust.

What's worse than a bust, SFP?

i think you're adding a layer to the discussion solely to get around the injury issue

"worst #1 overall pick" doesn't mean it has to be a "bust"

Honestly, I would probably take a Bill Belichik coached Jamarcus over Akili Smith, Alex Smith, that Rob guy who played for the bills, Joey Harrington, Ryan Leaf.

I known these guys were not all #1 picks.

The Falcons have had some bad #1 picks. Aundray Bruce is probably one of the 5 worst ever. Considering who they gave up, albeit indirectly, to get him and how his career has ended up, Mike Vick was a pretty horrible pick as well. Jeff George would have to be in the discussion for the same reasons as Vick. More for the combination of being an a-hole and falling far short of expectations than just being a total bust.

That being said, if you combine his unique approach to football with his truly pathetic on field performance, Jamarcus is probably the worst #1 overall in the modern (free agency) era.

should never be mentioned in this thread solely bc he was at least successful for multiple seasons.

I've been saying this for years. As soon as the Raiders put him on the trading block, a very intelligent team is going to swoop in, make a deal so the Raiders are paying a majority, and sit his arse on the bench and coach him up. If your a team with an older starter who's got 4 or 5 years left, what do you lose?

Meh, Randy Moss was looking pretty shaky for the Raiders years too, and look what happened

Al Davis can leach those out though, its his water monster special ability. Seriously, every time they show him on ESPN, I'm scared my screen is going to shatter.

Russell had concerns on how much he loved the game going back to his college days.

There was concern about Favre's ability to not be a dumbass with the ball, and he still succeeding even being a dumbass with the ball.

but no one has ever questioned his love of the game. You can't succeed in the nfl without a true love for the game.

Ugh, how many of those players do you think "love the game"? I doubt half of them would still be playing if they pay checks weren't in the millions.

you can't produce like you need to at the nfl level if you aren't wanting to do it.

Sorry, I just don't buy that argument. You can't be totally NOT interested, I understand that, but to think everyone in the NFL would be playing football for 80k a year is naive at the least.
