Is it never Ok to fire female on air talent for being long in the tooth?

Watching ESPN the last week or so and they have some older anchors that really need to be let go.
In this climate can they even have their contracts non renewed when they expire or are old hags the new protected class in today’s era of don’t look at looks listen to their words?

I have more respect for some of these older anchors who were probably legitimate journalists at one point or paid their dues to get to the top versus bimbos hired straight out of college nowadays.
