Is it illegal for me to steal signs as a fan in the stands?

What if, say, I get season tickets and sit in an optimal seat with a pair of binoculars and figure out the signs, then somehow relay each pitch to the team? Maybe before the game I tell the players who are stretching on the field if I hold up a blue poster board sign it means off speed or whatever.

The team is not conspiring. It’s just me as an individual letting it be known what I will be doing on my own.

I’m just sharing the signs, not stealing them.

You're trying your best to get your stros back in it huh? I just really doubt any MLB batter is gonna trust some dumbass in the stands with sign stealing

How legit awesome would this be if like a whole section of season ticket holders did this together? 100 green or red cards in the air every pitch. Ha!!!

I'm pretty sure the team is conspiring with you when they hear your plan and agree to participate.

My gosh there are some stupid people here. How legit awesome? It’d be awesome for the one or two pitches you get to see before getting kicked out of the game.

The Houston reaction to this scandal would be a perfect sociological study on the depths we will go as “fans” to justify and rationalize shite

That’s not conspiring. Conspiring would be if we planned together to steal signs. I would just be making an announcement. The team had nothing to do with it.

Anyway, stealing signs isn’t illegal. Only doing it electronically is illegal. It’s perfectly legal for a base coach to steal signs or a player to steal signs if he can see it.

So why would it be illegal for a fan to steal signs?

Once they confirm what your sign means, that's planning to use it. Don't be dumb.

Probably for the same reason you can’t get a seat behind home plate and start flashing lights at the opposing pitcher.

Totally different. Would it be illegal if I figured out the third base coaches signs and yelled “bunt”?
