Agreed. Not sure how people don't view it this way either.. Football is just more popular right now.

This. It's more popular, gets better TV ratings... great, but baseball is still "America's pastime" and that has more to do with there being 162 games vs. 16, and playing during the summer.

I don't think anyone thinks that baseball is more popular.

I still don't follow how it's America's pastime if football is more popular.

Can you explain what "America's pastime" means, then? I guess this is where I'm getting hung up.

Because they aren't the same thing.

You can pass the time watching baseball for 162 days of the year (and hopefully more) if you only follow one team. Watching baseball, whether in person or on TV, is a good way to pass the time.

Football is more concentrated, and each game more of an event and spectacle.

When I can't go to sleep, I turn on ESPN and look for baseball highlights. I'm out in like 5 mins or less.

Best part of the MLB season.

I'd point to that as reasoning.

For me NFL>>NBA>NHL>MLB

On the flipside, if I'm going to go play something out of that list irl, it's baseball hands down.

or golf, if it can be part of this discussion

Baseball has had a legitimate impact on American History and society.

This is how I got into soccer. I would put soccer on to fall asleep because there are zero commercials. Then I got to liking it.

So has football, and football will continue to do so barring a concussion induced downfall. And the nfl is all year round, much more so than baseball. The NFL schedule release was the front page of every sports website, during the NHL playoffs/nba playoffs/MLB season. The draft getting pushed back has had tons of coverage. Free agency has tons of coverage. When preseason football starts right as baseball is getting serious, which do you think gets more attention?

And I'm not saying I like this. I want other sports to get covered. But that stuff gets aired bc that's what the majority of viewers want

better and better HDTV's and coverage of NFL games as well as more rule changes due to TBI's will result in a bit of a decline for the NFL

tickets are too expensive and the television product is too good for fans to drive out to games in November/December on a Sunday afternoon to freeze.

Teams make more money of the TV deal that going. The places that have really shitty weather the fans tend to love that shite.
