Rivers was the bright spot on that team and I fricking hate Rivers.

Yeah I don't like Rivers but it is obvious that he was on his game this year and one of the best in the league

Another over rated thing is the "clutch" plays. You can only engineer a game winning drive if your team was behind. Sometimes that only necessary because you didn't play well earlier.

Lots of people keep going on about what a great pass Ben made on that 3rd down to end the game basically. It was good play, but wasn't necessary because he made bad plays earlier? If he doesn't fumble a snap in the end zone giving up a safety and forcing the defense back on the field right after a long drive, maybe he doesn't need to make that 3rd down pass

the answer lies in who each is banging. Brady is banging the supermodel of the decade and Rothlisburger is raping college chicks in bathrooms. Brady is the premier QB of this generation / thread.

He is a big lug who can take a hit.

He played on two super bowl winning teams.

he's good,but not great.

I doubt many people think he is in the same conversation
with Montana, Van Brocklin, Y A Tittle, and the actual best QBs of all time. He is just a good QB, blessed with a huge body.
We are hoping Mettenberger is as good.

Didn't his defense waste a 2 score lead

but but, the Troy Polamalu was healthy and the defense never folds when the MVP is healthy

you're such a homer

you can't have it both ways

Brees, Brady, Manning, Rivers, Rodgers

Big Ben is not, has never been and never will be on the same plateau as these guys

oh and to the Marino haters...he is the best quarterback of all time

I'm not getting back into this pointless debate with you, but that's not what I said. I said the defense is noticeably better with him in the line up. Never said they were invincible.

on troy being injured...

quote:

What is amazing is the Steelers record and defensive struggles when Troy is injured vs. when he's healthy.

quote:

That's why they didn't make the playoffs last year, or in 2007.

is making the playoffs versus not making the playoffs only "noticeably" better?

quote:

The defense is completely different when he's not on the field. Why else did the offense go pass happy last season? They had to keep up with opponent's scoring because our defense was average at best.

"completely" is not quite the same as "noticeably"

quote:

During the last two seasons, the Steelers are 14-4 when Polamalu plays but 5-7 when he doesn't

once again...according to you more than just a "noticeable" difference

Calling this a hyperbole is an understatement.

Yes, that all would qualify as noticeable. Something that's considered completely different would be noticeable to anyone who has functioning vision.

This is the problem, he's a very good quarterback. Unfortunately, lazy morons like to look at a team achievement (championships) as a measure of a player's greatness. The word "overrated" doesn't mean the guy sucks, it means he gets way more credit than he deserves. This seems to happen often w/ QBs who happen to play on championship teams that rely on other great aspects besides the passing game to attain that success.

the same could be said of certain QB's getting more credit than they deserve. Brady has not been playing behind a bunch of girls nor has he been throwing to Betty White.

I won't argue about Big Bens lack of Hall of Fame numbers because those are facts. But you are overlooking the other Variables that make a guy like Big Ben a perfect fit for an organization like Pittsburgh that gets it done without Tom Bradyesque stats.

I can live with that. Geaux Steelers.

Ok sorry for the bump. I started this thread then had a class and then proceeded to completely forget about this thread.
It looks lke it took off pretty good without me.

Looks like I was off on his offensive line. If they arent one of the best, no big deal. I was wrong on that. I guess he just "ectends the play" by being sacked more than anybody else in the league each year.

I got to page two and had to respond to this because this is what kills me with Ben defenders...

quote:

Makes plays when they are needed. He made at least 10 plays against the Jets that either converted a long third down (either running or passing), scored a td or clinched the game.

The Steelers were up what 24-3 at halftime vs the Jets? All Ben did in the second half was to try his hardest to blow the game for the Steelers. He did nothing good in the second half. If you want to give him a ton of credit for the late 3rd down completion, then go ahead. But that is a standard roll out. If you cant make that play, then you shouldnt be in the NFL. I thought Tomlin/or the OC deserved more credit for that than anybody.

I also cant stop looking at his stats.

2010
Comp. Pct - 15th
Rating - 5th

2009
5th in both areas

2008
Comp. Pct - 21st
Rating - 24th

2007
Comp. Pct - 7th
Rating - 2nd

2006
Comp. Pct - 19th
Rating - 21st

Those are really his favorable catagories. What about that screams one of the greatest ever? Or that he deserves to be in the same sentence as Brady, Manning or Brees? Sure he has two rings, which is nice, but give me Manning and Brees' one less ring and the stats to go with it.
