The catch fence probably shattered his head as he went cockpit first into it...
The picture released of him beeing loade into the chopper shows him completely covered in sheets except for his mouth area where they were trying to resuccitate (sp?) him..

No...Franchitti was and Will Power was like 18 points behind him.
I don't think Weldon had the best of years points wise, as I know up until Indy he was looking for a ride after it. I think he was in several cars this year.
ETA: Wheldon was 28th in points.
