I have NO prob with his OPINION. It IS WHAT IT IS. But just don't argue with me about what I lived through. Its obvious that this guy is a very young peson that hasn't seen the games I have.

Thats how WINNING teams played BACK then.

In the first Super Bowl, Bart Starr went 16-23 for 250 yards.

In the second Super Bowl, Bart Starr went 13-24 for 202 yards, which was 2/3 of the Packer's offensive output.

In the third Super Bowl, Joe Namath went 17-28 for 206 yards, which was about 60% of his team's offensive output.

In the fourth Super Bowl, Len Dawson went 12-17 for 142 yards, which was over 50% of his team's offensive output.

Your point is not only stupid, but invalid.

It was one team dominating another even though they had almost the same talent as they had the year before

quote:

Back then you had the same guys on a team for like 8-10 years.

Because they weren't allowed to sign with anyone else they were traded. BTW, the NFL is littered with guys that have been with their teams for 8-10 years. Tom Brady and Eli Manning say what's up.

quote:

When you can dominate another team when they have the same type players, its pretty cool.

Not really.

quote:

BUT AGAIN. I can't help that the game has changed so much over the years

Good because it has gotten better.

quote:

I just don't think the SB has as much luster as it used to

It has more.

quote:

BTW In THAT game Csonka carried the ball 33 times for 145 yds. TELL me a back that could do that in TODAYS GAME.

Adrian Peterson, Arian Foster, Jamaal Charles, Michael Turner, Steven Jackson, MJD, etc.

Not like it used to be. ELI??? 10 Years with the Giants???? OK.

Not from a PURE fans standpoint. From a media and TV standpoint?? YES IT HAS. Remember there have been almost 50 SB'S . You are NOT a purist. Which is ok. I am.

So WHY don't they do it????

So tell me the last time ANY of these guys did it even once

Arian Foster did it twice this year. MJD did it once this year. Gore once this year. Lynch once this year. Not to mention backs catch a lot more out of the backfield currently, so that can be very similar to a carry.

quote:

Let alone three or four times a year

You didn't say that at first. You acted like no one can do it anymore, which they obviously can.

Went for over 140 yards?

Foster did it 3 times in 2010: Weeks 1, 12, and 17. He did it twice this year: Weeks 4 and 16.

Peterson has done it 10 times in his career.

Turner has done it 8 times in his career.

It's funny you bring up Csonka, because the time you referenced is the only time in his career that he had over 140 rushing yards in a game.

NO they can't. If they could a GOOD FB coach would do that. YES the game has changed. The D 's are bigger and faster and stronger. BUT with a GOOD blocking scheme A back could do this more than once or twicw a year.

You said 8-10 years. This is 8th year with the Giants. I seriously doubt he'll be with a different team next year or the year after.

No it wasn't.

From a fan's standpoint there was never been as much luster around a Super Bowl. In the late-60's, early 70's, MLB was the king of pro sports in our nation. The NFL is far and away the most popular sport in our nation today.

quote:

So WHY don't they do it????

They do. Why didn't Csonka ever rush for over 140 yards in the regular season? If he was such a physical back, then why did he never have more than 220 carries in a season - and that was in a 16 game season? Hell the most he had in a 14 game season was 219. That's about 15.5 carries a game. Backs today are far more skilled and far more durable than their 1960's and 1970's counterparts.

They do it far more often than Larry Csonka every did and he didn't have to worry about 2 extra games each season.

When it counted most!!!

Marcus Allen was not a 140 yard a game guy. He went off the charts in the SB against the Redskins. [ Of Course YOU may have not been born yet].

Turner has done it 8 times in his career.

WOW!! I am IMPRESSED. And Atlanta hasn't won aplayoff game since when????

They obviously can, because I just gave you plenty of examples of backs who did it. Two more, Lesean McCoy did it once this year and Michael Bush did it twice. Just because they don't do it often doesn't mean they can't. The NFL is a pass first league now, so obviously not a ton of backs are going to do it.

You keep changing your argument everytime. First it's a back can't do it. I showed you they can. Then it's they can't do it 3-4 times a year. Now it's back to they can't do it, even though I showed you they can.

So because he wore down a team at the end of a game in which his team was up by 24 points going into the 4th I'm suppose to be impressed? You aren't going to give any credit to the fact that the defense produced two turnovers?

Get out of here old man. You don't know crap yet you want to run your mouth like you do.

He's a better back than Larry Csonka ever was and he's doing it in a MUCH TOUGHER era than any in NFL HISTORY! FACT!

Back in the day the SB had a better rating than the WS. IT WAS THE GAME. Its still THE GAME with a crowd of people that don't really care about the game. Only a reason to have a party. Think about it.

So you think everyone who watched in back in the day cared about the game? Lol. Old and naive much?

I'll give you Jim Brown and OJ, but the other two are no better than any of the guys listed in this thread.

The Raiders Tampa Bay Super Bowl in 2003 was the beginning of the end of great super bowls.

He started dominating the game from the get-go. AGAIN. THIS IS ABOUT FOOTBALL. Miamis O-line was very dominate from the time the game started.

REALLY. LOOK STAT man. The MINNESOTA VIKES were a great team in 1973 and yet got dominated up front by the Dolphins. FACT. That was Shulas gameplan executed to perfection. Wanna argue that???

This combined with their defensive play was the reason they won.
