I debated that, but that's a fine line to say he had possession....based on the rule book definition. If you make the same argument on a pass reception, you should apply the same definition to a kick. JMO

I respect your opinion on all things referee-related.

Went to a Saints game, can't remember the opponent who was punting-

-they touched the ball outside of the endzone
-ball went into the endzone but wasn't downed
-Saints WR picked it up and returned it to the 40, while most of the other team was walking off the field

what was really interesting was that had the returner fumbled the Saints would have had the choice to take tha ball where it was orginial touched

Hardly anyone knows this rule.

Zero bad things can happen (aside from an injury during the return) if a returner picks it up after it is initially touched.
