I think it also happened because the lhsaa voting process is skewed... Case in point Oberlin has the same one vote as Jesuit. The obama supporter type high schools won through sheer demographics, while the producers, the good football schools got severely outnumbered

Didnt winnfields state runner up team have a player that actually resided in a neighboring parish?
If the lhsaaa enforced the rules problem solved

chalmetteowl, I think in a lot of cases these lines get drawn and we look at the other "side" with skewed glasses. Many publics look at private schools as rich, entitled, conservative, uppity, etc. On the other hand, many privates look at publics as lower class, liberal, poor, uneducated, etc.
But you and I know that both are usually untrue. I know hundreds of good, solid, fair people from private schools and there are equally hundreds of good, solid, fair people from the publics.
I also know that these scenarios play out much differently in larger cities with multiple public & private schools than they do in rural areas with only one school. Winnfield, for instance, has only one public high school. The closest private school s are St. Mary's in Natchitoches (35 miles away) and Cedar Creek in Ruston (40 miles away).
So, to be fair, Winnfield doesn't see the problems faced by the residents of larger cities with multiple schools

Has anyone mentioned to this idiot yet that curtis doesn't give scholarships to anyone?
And also, 2 to 1 support doesn't mean sht when non-football-playing schools are allowed to vote on what happens in the football playoffs.
Defend the idiot principal all you want. It just outs you as a butthurt bumpkin jealous of the success of others.

As for taking your
money and leaving the LHSAA in a financial bind,
this, too, is a joke. When Winnfield played
John Curtis in 2011 we had twice as many fans
as JC, with Winnfield having to travel 250 miles
and JC less than 20 miles from the Superdome
Someone needs to tell PhD Jane that is one of the silliest non sequitur logical fallacies ever.

No idea what you're talking about. But if you have some proof of this, I'd like to hear it. I have never heard this about that team, or any other team from Winnfield

Kid was living with aunt and uncle in another parish.

I liked that barbes principal voted for the split and was so outspoken about being anti football recruiting. Ahem, maam, you're baseball team is one of the worst offenders.

Meh, no point to bringing it up. They are too butthurt to find the truth. Let them beLIEve what they want.

Another valid point.

Yea, sometimes will have a 'room' at the address they used to enroll. Deodorant, pictures of family, clothes on the floor, etc..... all to sell that they are actually living there.

And the real travesty occurred years earlier when eCA and jc were forced to play down

John Curtis has more black kids every year.
This is not in any way to bring race into this discussion. You have got to be kidding me if
you try to tell me that these mostly
underprivileged kids have the money to pay
the thousands of dollars that a private school costs.
We will never get any information from John
Curtis administration about who pays for these
kids. Do you honestly believe that these kids
are not having their costs forgiven or paid for
by someone else?
John Curtis had the opportunity to play all
the way up to 5A when schools could make that choice. They chose to play in 4A when ECA did
choose to play in 5A. So does that make John
Curtis 4A victories tainted because they didn't
"play the best" as some argue that public school
championships this year will be meaningless?
I have admiration for most private schools;
they don't forget that their primary mission
is to educate.
I have nothing but disdain for John Curtis and
ECA because they did everything they could to
bend the rules for their benefit. Championships
are determined between peers; they never were
and are not now peers with public schools that
are bound by an attendance zone and have to take
any and every kind of student. Do you wonder
why the word "Select" was used to describe
private schools?
THANK YOU WINNFIELD PRINCIPAL JANE GRIFFIN!

Are you trying to write a song or something?
Why should you? Private school.
Do you honestly believe every public school is clean?

This wouldn't be a problem if 5A schools just sucked it up and let ECA and JC play up again.
Is the correct answer. ECA should not be playing 1A schools.

Well, schools like Oberlin were affected by this, too. Oberlin is very good at 1A football, but no chance at ever beating Evangel for a state championship.
I think ECA moved to 2A if I'm not mistaken, but to say Oberlin shouldn't get a vote is bullshite, this affected then for a while, too.

Evangel always played up as far as they were allowed, but Curtis never had the balls to play 5A. Or 4A when it was the highest class. They are--and always have been--the biggest chickenshit count in this whole ordeal.
Posted on 11/13/13 at 11:45 pm to southernelite
Eca never wanted to play 1a or 2a but 5a wanted them down based on enrollment numbers.

I am kind of at a loss as to why all the private school guys are so pissed. You had your run at it and the majority voted you out because you fricking cheat like hell. Deal with it. It's your ball, take it and go home if you want. Everyone else doesn't really care.
You sit here and want us to take you seriously and have a discussion about the situation but won't even admit that private schools recruit players from across the state.
Whatever. I don't really have a horse in this race, but damn you frickers are some sore losers.
You should like do something about it instead of whining.
Whether you care or not, the new system is in the least more fair that what they had before.
But I'm sure I'll just hear the same retorts that public schools recruit and John Curtis doesn't give schollies, prove it and all the other bullshite.
I wonder how much money Joe McKnight's family paid JC in total, or Warrick Dunn's famiily to Catholic or hell even Jeremy Hill's family to Redemptorist.
I am sure they paid all the school bills in full with just family money.
It was a long time coming. You held it at bay for a very long time with some fancy finagling at the LHSAA of how private teams played up or down, but this was inevitable.
I am just surprised you guys are so damn bitter about it. Seriously, just go start your own association. It's what you want to do anyway.
