Jamarcus got drafted 1st based solely on his ability to throw long, so anything is possible. He's at least as good as Jamarcus.

I'd love for the Steelers to grab him if he were available in round 4. Learn under Big Ben for a few years.

I'd take him the second round.

shite no. Strong arm and small sample size. Would be a terrible pick unless he falls far.

Any NFL team that drafted him would be gambling on his raw tools

90% of qbs drafted are for this reason.. EVERY QB taken has to be developed into an NFL qb.

Hes 22 years old and Doesn't much like going to class... A perfect time to go... GET PAID young man......

Urban must have told him that he wasn't going to be named the starter next year.

I would think it would be an open competition. When does JT come back? Ready for spring practice?

I think Jones made the right choice. With a good Pro day/combine, 3rd round for sure

Simplifying it a bit, since some need "more work" than others.

But ya, this kid needs to go pro and get paid. I feel like people are projecting the seemingly inevitable failure and bankruptcy.

One is a function of the NFL itself. 90% of the league is out of it in 3 years anyways.

Bankruptcy is a function of the person's responsibility, not from their decision to go pro early or not.

If Logan Thomas can get picked in the 3rd, the sky is the limit for Cardale

no

he got drafted #1 for being the best QB in CFB the year prior and the raiders needing a QB while having the #1 pick

very fair point

i'm also curious waht another year of running a spread option would do for cardale, even assuming he starts at OSU in 2015

it's not like he's getting reps/game time running a pro offense

This.

His performance in the Sugar Bowl certainly didn't hurt.

Having "the best combine of all time" certainly helped

If he has a great combine I could see him going as high as late second round. He'd be a great player to stash behind an established starter like Roethlisberger, Brady or Brees, learn for a couple of seasons, then roll him out in his 4th year or so.

Cardale Jones is a fool if he doesn't go pro. One more year with Urban Meyer isn't going to add value. People advising Jones to stay are fools.

I am normally totally against a guy turning pro early, but in this case on the surface it appears to be a wise move. He is either going to ride the bench at OSU or ride a NFL bench. Better to get paid than not.

I think some of you are looking at this situation all wrong.

He was not an Urban Meyer recruit. He was recruited by Tressel went to Prep school and his commitment was honored by Fickell and then Meyer. He enrolled at tOSU in January 2012.
quote:

Jones signed his national letter of intent in February 2011, but attended Fork Union Military Academy for one semester that fall and roomed with 2012 Ohio State recruit Michael Thomas ... Jones was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 12 prep school player in the country in 2011 ...

JT Barrett is an Urban Meyer recruit and his personality is more in line with Meyer's. Barrett is a serious, competitive player and leader. Jones has a rep of being immature and a goofball. So meyer sitting Barrett for Jones is unlikely. Jones would have to spend another year in college running a system (in practice) that doesnt reflect or prepare him for the NFL

tOSU's shotgun, zone read offense is great in college but Jones will need to work under center, learn to drop back correctly and how to read the defense while he is dropping back. How is staying at tOSU going to help him there? If he is on an NFL roster he is getting paid to learn an NFL system.

Jones has a new baby, is already 22 years old and declaring now puts him one year closer to his second NFL contract if he turns out to be a NFL caliber QB. The second contract is the big contract for NFL players.

he will go to the tOSU Pro Day, make all the throws and he will "magically" start shooting up the draft charts

Especially considering his lack of motivation for school. He's already achieved incredible success, might as well cash in on it.

Scouts will be enamored with his arm and physical tools. He'll go higher than you think.
