I'm glad Tom Brady doesn't have Brady Jr on his jersey

I've never understood putting a suffix on the back of a jersey. It's refreshing to see someone not put that on their jersey when they could (he's legally named Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr).

I have never cared either way about how someone wants their name on the back of their jersey. Not sure why this bothers you.

Stuff like this would almost make me want to do such a thing. I likely still wouldn't though.

Just curious. Are you one of those guys who don't like grown men wearing another man's name on the back of a jersey?

I mean...yeah. Grown men wearing modern sports jerseys are pretty funny.

You wanna rock a vintage jersey, cool. But going to buy a guy's jersey that you could have fathered is kind of sad.

But...people are free to do all sorts of things I choose not to, so more power to them/you I guess.

It always annoys me because if you are Tom Brady Jr you are Tom Jr. not Brady Jr.

The Jr. doesnt even refer to the last name really. Your last name does NOT include the Jr. lol.

So if someone's father passed away that they were very close to and wanted to do this to honor them - you would think that is stupid?

Bingo. I once heard Cal Ripken Jr say that he wanted him and his brother to have the same name on the back of the jersey.

Agreed specifically on junior. However once you get into thirds and possibly beyond I feel like it’s a power move and shows off a family a good stock without having to say a word.

I hate when they put Jo. Smith and Ja. Smith on the back on the jerseys when two people have the same last name. That’s what the numbers are for.

I collected jerseys for quite a while but I have a rule now where the player's jersey that I wear has to be older than me so that eliminates just about everyone in the NFL.

How is it sad? How is one better than the other? I just don’t get it.

In the 70's the U of TX had 2 Johnny Joneses.

Ham, Lam, and Jam

I think Jam barely got there before one of the others graduated.

I don't understand it unless your dad was playing at the same time. Griffey, for instance, didn't continue to put "JR" next to his name after his dad retired. But none of that is as dumb as players putting "SR" next to their names.

I'll try and explain my POV this way. When I was a kid, I looked up to these guys as larger than life. It really wasn't until I was in high school and went to LSU's Fan Day in the fall of 1986 and got to meet Harvey Williams and Sammy Martin. Williams was an incoming freshman and Martin was a senior. Despite the fact that Williams had calves like a damn horse, I was nearly as tall as him, and towered over Martin as a 16 year old. It was a strange feeling and sort of humanized them all for me.

It was largely why I lost interest in college sports while I was in college myself, because these were contemporaries. I picked it all back up a few years later in my mid to late 20's, but it never felt the same. Still loved it, but that hero worship was obviously gone. And when it was hero worship is when I'd have happily worn a jersey.

As a grown arse 50 year old adult, the idea of buying a jersey for a guy in his 20's seems weird to me. The reason I'd have done that as a kid, looking up to them, is no longer there. On the other hand, I'll never stop looking up to the guys I looked up to when I was a kid, right? Although I don't own any, I'd wear the hell out of some Ebbets Field Flannels, for instance.

LINK

Like I said, the mileage of others may vary, but this is why I personally would never do it and why I find it odd.
