Yeah, I think this thread was mainly geared to people who don't like Tiger.

He had the best ever stretch of golf from 2000-2008.

49 PGA wins
13 Majors

Honestly I think he would be the GOAT. Assuming he wins 5 more majors, he most likely would pass Snead for more PGA tour wins all time, and could become the all-time leader for European Tour victories as well.

With those kind of records it would be hard to say he isn't the best ever. IMO

This is exactly like the argument of who the greatest QB is in the NFL right now.

I'll listen to anyone who says Brady or Rogers is a great QB, but they better not leave Brees out. If they're great , fine, but not at the expense of leaving my guy out in the yard.

People easily forget the great players jack competed against, Watson, Palmer, Player. Jack did things with a golf club never seen before. Putted like noone has ever seen. Tiger is great yes, but not at the expense of leaving Jack in the driveway.

If he does break his Majors record he would be the greatest, yes, but can you really say that with a straight face

It would be very easy to make a case either way, IF Tiger does break the record.

Not even close. I agree he has done a lot for the sport, but he doesn't nearly live up to Palmer, Player, Ballesteros, Jones, and many others. For them, golf was more than a game. You can count Tiger in this grouping once he stops treating the game like entertainment. He's overproduced because he is the only "great" in the widespread television/pop culture era.

if he breaks the record, there is no argument against him being the GOAT.

will some of you really still call jack the greatest? really?

He's not touching Jack's record.

ETA: IMHO, Jack wasn't the greatest either.

He is already the greatest golfer who ever lived.

exactly. there is a strong argument now that he is the greatest. if he gets to 19, there is no doubt. if you still say jack is the greatest, you are delusional.

Anyone who says that Jack was better than Tiger. . .

. . .It wouldn't matter if Tiger won the next 19 consecutive major tournies, they'd still find an excuse.

It isn't about golf to them.

Yes. Hell, a reasonable argument could be made that he already is. I still hold Jack as #1 though.

PGA players are better today because of techonolgy. The out of shape white guys you refer to were playing with clubs and balls that can't compare with the equipment today's players use.

So what does that mean to you? You never really answered the question.

Tiger's biggest problem has been Tiger. I think if he had not had all the personal problems, he would be considered the greatest. He just got in the way of his own success and people (some but not even the majority) have jumped off his bandwagon.

I say Jack would still be considered the golfer.
