Right now he can sign a 150 million dollar contract. What if he tears an acl next year?

He will still get a max deal.

Bird rights

I really wanted the other guy to respond, because I know where he is getting those numbers. But he is using them wrong. If Durant does the one year contract in OKC or elsewhere, next summer he can either resign with OKC for 6/228 or another team at 5/176 (LINK Now, that looks like he is giving up 50M if he leaves OKC. But the yearly average is less than 3 million, if you compare both contracts (228/6=38, 176/5=35.2). I'm sure nobody is assuming that he would play that 6th season for free, if he went elsewhere.

and the last two pieces: Harden or Westbrook. Westbrook plays defense consistently

Consistently is stretch

He is good but he was awful in game 6.

Still way better than harden

yeah but at the same time, he's about to be 28. he'll be 29 by the time he signs the "2017 max" contract and do you really want to give 200 million dollars to a 29 year old 6'11 dude with injury issues.

Yes.

yes he could hypothetically get that next year but i'm not 10000% sure he does. a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush, he has that 300 million dollar shoe deal i think or something like that, it's not like he needs an additioanl 50 million dollars.

Even if he did something beyond stupid like sign a one and done contract and blew out his knee, he would get max money a year from now.

if he was a 25 instead of 27 okay. but right now he'll be 33 in the last year of his deal earning 40 million dollars for a guy who has never won a chip. i'll have to see it to believe it

You should Google the people who have received max contracts in the NBA.
