Eli is definitely a tougher qb and the one that I'd rather have as a teammate.

Payton is better in a vacuum. The only problem is big playoff games aren't played in a vacuum.

If Chase Blackburn wins another SB, would you put him above Ray Lewis as a better Linebacker?

Come on, you would honestly rather have Eli Manning than have Peyton?

let me clarify...it came out wrong

I would rather be TEAMMATES with Eli.

He blends into the team better than Peyton and he's obviously good enough to get to the big dance and win it all. He seems more laid back while Peyton seems more like his own entity.

Ok that is at least justifiable. I retract my initial reaction.

But Brady is so clutch!!! He is the GOAT!!!

while Eli is performing at a very high level he just doesn't have that "wow...he's just unstoppable" factor Payton had where he just completely took a game over and it didn't matter what a D was throwing at him.

This board amazes me sometimes

There's a large contingent of this board that represents all the things that I hate about sports, namely the sensationalism of what's currently happening in sport. Peyton misses a season, while Eli gets to a Superbowl largely due to 49er turnovers and complete ineptness on 3rd down conversions by Alex Smith and the offense as a whole.

In the Giants eight drives in the 3rd and 4th quarters, Eli produced just five first downs, including the TD to Manningham. He completed just 55% of his passes for the entire game.

Now, Eli has definitely had his best year as a pro, but his best year is a good season for a guy like Tony Romo. He played really well against ATL, and had a nice game against Green Bay. However, SF killed themselves with fumbles. The Giants are playing really well as a team, and while Eli did carry them for a large portion of the season, he didn't have a spectacular season by any stretch.

Anyone who says that Eli is better than Peyton regardless of what happens in the Superbowl does not know football. Furthermore, anyone who says that Eli belongs with Rodgers/Brees/Brady does not know football.

So Manning is suppose to block for himself, catch his own passes, and play defense?

Well scissor me timbers.

I agree with most of what you said, but not this.

He's probably still on the cusp of elite, since he turns the ball over so frequently, but he did throw for almost 5,000 yards and he did it this year without a stout running or a defense to back him up.

Eli's performance was really the only constant for the Giants this year. To me, that's spectacular.

no, i would just say he has more superbowl wins

Perfect!

But y'know I'd love to see a Superbowl that pits the Manning boys on opposing teams. That would be classic. What would Archie and Olivia do?

Have a good time. It's a win-win for them. Their son is winning the Superbowl, so why worry?

5,000 yards, but he got those 5,000 with a very mediocre 61% completion percentage. Here's how Eli stacked up this season compared to other starters:

Yards - 4th
Completion % - t13th
YPA - t4th
YPG - 5th
TDs - t6th
INTs - t7th most
Rating - 7th

Eli isn't top 3 in any major statistical category and is barely top 5. Sure he didn't have much of a running game this year, but Victor Cruz was a top 3 WR in the league this year, and Cruz/Nicks/Manningham is up there with the best WR core in the league.

Again, he had a very good season and showed a lot of poise, but his season was not spectacular.

I am tired of the excuses for Peyton Manning not winning more titles. The guy has a history of choking. His offensive weapons have always been superior to Brady's and Eli's. You people can throw numbers around all day long but if Eli wins more SB titles that's all that matters. Eli just played one of the best games of his life against GB and all you guys can talk about is SF but nobody talks about the shitty weather. Still 0 turnovers, over 300 yrds passing and 2 touchdown passes.

They had the 32nd ranked running game in the league this year. I'll remind you that the NFL has 32 teams.

Fair or unfair, many athletes are judged by how much hardware they have in the trophy case.

The first thing said when someone mentions Tom Brady is that he has three SB rings. Does this fact alone make hime better than Marino, who has none.
