The answer to that extremely simple question is yes

Should a pitcher who commits an error that scores a or multiple runs take the hit to their ERA?

Should a defender be credited for a sack if the QB just falls down a-la Peyton Manning?

If a DB mishandles an easy interception and the receiver catches it on the deflection and scores, should the QB be given credit for a TD pass?

Once the balls movement is no longer the result of the QB’s throw, no statistic should be assigned to the QB.

I remember JoJo LaFell basically lateraling the ball to Auburn in '07-ish

I thought about that while reading the OP. I think he had lasik surgery after that season.

Especially for a perfectly placed ball.

That’s fine. But the QB is still credited with an int outside of advanced analytics. And he shouldn’t be.

It’s a counting stat.

A pitcher shouldn’t get a strikeout if the batter swings at a ball outside of the strike zone

You keep repeating this like it matters lol

It shouldn’t be an int against the qb

Exactly.

I understand where the OP is coming from, but life isn’t always fair. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes not.

Another example is Hail Marys. You're just chucking the ball up for grabs at the end of a half because you have no other option. Those aren't really an indictment of the QBs decision making

I guess by that logic, if the Hail Mary is completed, the QB shouldn’t get credit for that.

Can’t give him credit for one and not the other.

That's because he's not the brightest bulb in the room.

Shouldn't be... but it is because we currently don't have anything else to do with them. How would you categorize them?

Mishandled passes caught by the other team and charged to the receiver that didn't catch it?

You’re correct. There’s no other option right now. That needs to change. “WR-caused-INT” ? I don’t know exactly what the answer is - but I know what the answer is not, and that’s giving the int to the QB. This is common sense.

But you are wrong. It's a counting stat, after all.

If the QB throws a terrible ball into triple coverage and doinks it off a defender’s face mask into the hands of a WR for a TD, does common sense dictate that you don’t give the TD to the QB?

Mingo is actually correct here. INT’s and TD’s are simply records of outcomes (counting stats). They’re not ratings for how well or terribly a QB threw a pass.
