Damn, that's giving up a ton. Been reading and many people think he could be similar to Nolan Ryan

Similar as in top 10 pitcher of all time?

Or he just throws heat...

Pretty much every team has a player like Ichiro as their 4th outfielder

every team has a 38 year old OF that cant hit as their 4th OF?

Out of all 38+ year olds with enough ABs to qualify ony Jamie Carroll has a lower OPS.

Out of all players with 75+ plate appearances, Ichiro is 299th in OPS

Since the start of 2011 the only qualified players with a lower OPS than Ichiro are Cliff Pennington and Gordon Beckham (middle infielders).

Since the start of last season no qualified player over the age of 38 has a lower OPS.

Since the start of last season only 3 players over the age of 38 with 200+ plate appearances have a lower OPS than Ichiro. Magglio Ordonez (retired), Miguel Tejada (currently in the minors) and Omar Vizquel.

Yes I look sooooo stupid saying Ichiro wouldnt be in the majors if his name wasnt Ichiro

I really do hope he can turn it around. Yankee stadium might do wonders for him. But since the start of last season he has been an awful hitter.

I'm not too good at math could you put his BA against Baltimore in there as well?

Just look around at any teams roster. There are some terrible OFs occupying a roster spot. You really don't think that Ichiro, who can hit .260 (albeit with no power and patience) and play near elite defense, can be a 4th OF?

I never said he couldn't be a 4th OF. I'm basically saying if you had no idea who he was and GMs were only looking at a 38 year old corner OF that has had an OPS under .650 in his last 1100 plate appearances he wouldnt be in the major leagues.

Wow, it's really weird seeing Ichiro in a Yankees uniform. He's going to get a realllllly long standing ovation when he comes up.

I've read a few guys on twitter say it's not retired, but Ichiro chose a new number to respect Williams. Not sure how reliable those guys are though. Also I dont think 51 or 21 are officially retired, but I dont think any Yankee players have worn them since Williams and O'neill retired. Kind of strange...

Not sure if it is, yet.

As it should be, bernie was a great yankee.

He was a good player, but not good enough to retire his number where no one can ever wear it again.

Shoot he probably won't even make the Hof

That's fair. The guy has defied logic his entire career, I thought for sure he was going to have a bounce back this year but it didn't happen. Nothing he does with the Yanks would surprise me. He really is an enigma.

This is weird as frick. I was so caught off guard by the trade and it happened so late I forgot the M's were playing the Yanks.

I think he'll do better in New York than he has with Seattle. Better park to hit in and he won't be leading off for a team that's second to last in the league in runs. He won't be like he was at the beginning of the last decade, but I think he'll be a great piece for the Yankees

Pretty cool momement there. Would have been surprised if he didnt get a hit.

If anything it will be fun to see if this re energizes him. Just don't know how they plan on handling this when Swisher comes back.

Think they said Ichiro would be in left, with Jones/Ibanez moving to the DH spot

That would be pretty crazy IMO. Ichiro is still a really good RF and he's played over 1500 games there (not counting japan) and 0 games in LF. Jones is a pretty good LF and Ibanez isnt that bad. Swish has played over 100 games in LF. I actually think Ichiro should be the last option to move to LF.

It's going to be pretty cool/historic when Jeter or ARod knock in Ichiro at some point this season.

Yanks will put his number up in monument park. He did play his entire 16 year career with Yanks getting 2336 hits, 287 home runs, and 147 SB.
He ranks 5th all time in hits
He ranks 7th in homers
He ranks 3rd in doubles
He ranks 6th in rbi
He ranks 15th in avg, 16th OPS, 17th OBP
He ranks 6th in runs
He ranks 6th in games

These are alltime yankees stats before someone gets mad
