I honestly didn’t even read most of the thread. I skimmed the last page and jumped into the argument assuming it’s the been page after page of the same arguments as always. The thing is, the same tired arguments by people that athleticism doesn’t matter in soccer is just cope, mostly by European soccer fans to try to rebut the common argument by Americans that they’d dominate soccer if their best athletes played.
It’s nonsensical that athleticism doesn’t matter. If athleticism doesn’t matter, why do so many players decline starting in their early 30s like any other athletic sport?
Why is my team, Liverpool, trying desperately to add more athleticism on the wings because they recognized their aging and slow wingers were a big problem for them this year?
Why did French coaches get caught saying there’s too many black players on the French team because they dominate with their athleticism?
It’s really a nonsensical argument that athleticism doesn’t matter in soccer. Sure, skill may be the most important factor, but athleticism absolutely matters as well.

You just ignore it.
We aren’t talking about taking our best sprinters. Or best high jumpers.
We are talking about taking our best receivers and point guards etc.
They are typically better overall athletically than what is on our USMNT AND they have elite spatial awareness timing etc.
The only unknown is their foot eye skills as opposed to their hand eye.
But it would seem to be an EXTREME outlier to assume the hundreds to thousands of our upper tier athletes would not be able to build that skill.

Wrestling doesn’t generate revenue that any of the three big sport do yet we have plenty of Olympic and World champs.
It requires to be taught very early typically like soccer

This myopic mindset is the weirdest part for me, arguing a very sterile, static style as if it's the only way. Soccer changes and different styles become dominant over time. This is why Brazil and Italy have having so many problems now producing the same level of talent in the current modern version of soccer.
On top of it, there's a dishonest commentary about the status of our team's technical ability and our team's place in the world, while projecting another dishonest version of how prevalent unathletic teams like Spain are (there is only one Spain, and they won Euro 2024 because of their athletic wingers).
Our team is very good, likely top 15 in the world.
Our technical ability is OK-good. Certainly not great or elite, but we're not 2006 USNT anymore. It can certainly improve, and that's basically guaranteed as our development develops with each generation.
But thinking this exact skill level couldn't be a much better team if our player were bigger/faster/stronger is legit retarded.
Notice nobody opposing my argument has yet to reply to my specific hypo
Oh, and my comment was about the mentality. We posted similar things about how our top athletes are almost guaranteed to be superior in terms of mindset/mentality/intelligence than the soccer population. It's not a knock on the soccer population but more praise of how insane our top sports performers are in this area, from guys like Ed Reed to Lebron to QBs to PGs, etc.

The youth setup in America is not conducive to establishing elite individual skillsets. That has been established.
Beyond that though, the fact that the available pool of athletes is miniscule because kids start out playing other sports HAS to be a factor. A big one.

Yeah Europeans would never unfoundedly think they are inherently superior to the outside world.
Definitely not a defining characteristic for their culture over time.
