I think a lot of the sensitivity on our side is dealing with sitting in a non-sold out stadium against lesser-known teams (to casual college football fans), while people we know cross the basin. But it doesn’t bother me because I get it. If the Cajuns can keep winning 10+ games each season, we’ll get there. If we can’t sustain that level of success after Napier moves on, well that’ll suck.
This is a great explanation and attitude. Napier is exactly what UL needs now. I was pleased at that hire. He approaches things like the fans should (I do consider myself a UL Lafayette fan as well as an LSU fan, as does my son who is about to be an LSU graduate.) Fans should not try to guage the program, themselves, or other people's fandom based on LSU or anyone else.
Just look at progress. UL has made great progress in football in the last several years. Each of the last two coaches have been better hires than their predecessor. That is a good trend. If Napier moves on to a high profile job and we hire another good coach that will be progress as well.
I am of the opinion that if UL can become known as a launching pad for a higher profile job, the program will prosper as a result. If you are hiring coaches because your previous coach moved on to a better job, you become attractive to younger up and coming coaches. That was kind of the Boise State model if memory serves. Several very good coaches who spent 2-5 years there and moved on to higher profile jobs.

So, out of curiosity, what do you think the limit is for UL sports? I am talking both short term and long term. What goals do you think is realistic for the program to achieve?

The biggest issues for Louisiana in terms of conference affiliation is perception of the Sun Belt and the existence of Tulane.
The former hurts NY6 and CFP odds. The latter is currently sitting on a spot in the American - and it's a tough sell to add a 2nd team from the state.

I agree with that as well. Of course, a small budget, and little hopes of getting a student access fee implemented might be even bigger issues.....as I think the SBC is improving it's image a whole lot.

You're better than CUSA as-is. I'd set you as the 8th strongest FB conference.

Louisiana? Didn't realize all this stuff were state issues.
Oh, you mean ULL!

we agree again. But saying we are better than cusa, although true, is not good enough.

laugh at how castrated every ULM student and alum must be that they sit back and do NOTHING about an equal institution taking the indicator off their name while ULM takes it like a cuck
Why would ULM care??? … LSU people the only people in the world who care about their name change …

Whichever Louisiana team it was, I think the Cajuns, they curb stomped Iowa State last year. Gut checked them to end the game. That team should just take the University of Louisiana moniker and run with it.
And yes, that team probably could have beaten LSU last year.

I just realized only one team represented Louisiana in the top 25 rankings last year. I guess the flagship school decided to take the year off.

You’ll have to excuse my friend, he’s a little slow! Town is back that way!
