They are getting paid to play! It should be contractual in the NIL payments. Think about it. The OU game really didn't "mean anything". So are the players going to start quiting if the team is eliminated from the cfp chances?

Well while we all know they’re getting paid to play, they technically aren’t. If they opt out, I’m sure it’s in their contract that they won’t get paid depending on clauses and payout terms.

One more time for the back row: you cannot make NIL pay contingent upon playing.

It’ll get better with the revenue sharing. They should get paid for each snap they’re on the field and a little more for a bowl snap or playoff snap. Make the fight for the playing time.

Players will choose schools that do not tie NIL payments to their participation in bowl games.

The problem is the Transfer Portal window is open during the bowl post season. They really can't change it because guys have to get enrolled by January for the spring semester.

I just don't get how so many people don't get this nor the fact that the schools aren't parties to the contracts.

Why can't NIL be tied to playing. The NIL is tied to the school in some fashion. It's really about accountability. Do the job you're getting paid for!

No, it isn't. The players are being paid for the use of their names, images, etc, and personal appearances at events. They are not being paid to play.

Anyone that thinks they aren't getting paid to play is a rube! Stop being intelectually dishonest! I havent heard of that NIL payments for being a great Vet tech! None of there guys would be getting any NIL money if the weren't playing.

Which is worthless if they aren't playing.

They're essentially endorsements/sponsorships.

Lebron James gets paid by the NBA franchise he plays for to play basketball in the form of salary. If he retires he won't make NBA salary anymore. However he will still be paid by Nike for his shoe deal. Think of NIL as the latter, not the former. The schools themselves do not pay their athletes (yet, revenue sharing is on the docket in 2025). They only issue scholarships for now

Have you read the court ruling that resulted in NIL?

As of now legally, no they are not. We all know they are, but by the letter of the law, the NIL deals are not incentive to play or not play.

I'm not naive at all. I know what the court ruling stated.
