Well we know south Carolina fans don't care either way because they'll never be in that situation.

What does me being a Gamecock fan have to do about you promoting what amounts to college football socialism? Not all conferences are equal every year, especially those whose members play 1 or 2 Power 5 teams every year. I actually root for you guys to succeed most of the time, and I think it's foolish of Tiger fans to support automatic conference tie-ins now because it would have prevented Bama from being in the playoff, when it's likely said tie-ins could prevent an LSU team in the future from making the playoff.

They do. It's nothing big, but they do give divisional trophies, and they give them to any team that has the highest record in the division. The tie-breaker is only to determine the division rep in the SECCG.

Sure they did. They beat everyone on their schedule besides a top 10 opponent in the road. Every other team is playing by the same rules. Anyone else could have been in the position Alabama found themselves in. We made the playoffs fair and square according to the rules we all agreed to play by.

The only reason you got in was because Auburn was penalized for losing the conference championship. If that game wasn't played Bama never would have gotten in. Earning it would have meant beating Auburn and making it to the championship game.

I do agree y'all got in under the rules this year. I just think there needs to be a change.

You're the one that brought up me being an LSU fan, but now I can't bring up that you're a gamecock fan? If I wanted dumbass responses I'd have put this on the rant.

You say this until somehow LSU gets to the position Bama was in this year... then you would be crying if LSU is left out....

I don't get the downvotes. If it's a four team playoff then obviously OOC results and records will matter even if it's conference champs only, because you've got 5 power 5 conferences (and the entirety of the G5) to choose from.

You do run the risk of leaving out the true best team in the land, which some people will find enough to discount the system. But you can count me in with the "how can you be a national champion when you aren't the champion of your conference?" crowd.

Why though? The playoff worked. The best team won.

We may never know. There's another team out there that's 13-0 with a win against an Auburn team that beat both Bama and Georgia pretty handily...but they play the only sport with a playoff format that leaves out undefeated teams.

Bama backdoored their way into another championship thanks to Georgia and Auburn having an extra game. Both finished the regular season ranked higher, but Bama benefits from the fact that they had to play each other in the SECCG which guaranteed one would take another loss and fall behind Bama while they sat at home

Maybe I'm wrong but I also think a team like Ohio State and Bama gets that bid but Mississippi State wouldn't have.

At the end of the day that sticker bias will always be there.

Thankfully LSU is on the better half of that bias than a lot of other programs.

Once there is a CFP championship with only conference champions eligible, the OOC games would be rendered worthless.
I’d rather our starters not even play those games as a matter of fact.

The problem with everything is the human element. As long as Alabama has the prettiest players, and Nick Saban as coach, there will always be a bias towards them.

Come up with a legitimate power ranking formula that takes into account strength of schedule and conference championship. Choose the top damn 4. Or 8, or however many teams you want for a playoff.

This will make ESPN, coaches polls, AP polls, and a shitbag committee irrelevant, all the while shutting up the UCF's of the world unless they play some real teams OOC.

Because the idea that Bama should get penalized for losing one game against a top ten conference foe on the road while leaving open the chance that other conference champions that are significantly weaker can get in is absurd .

Funny how LSU fans always called Les Miles out for “backing into his lone NC,” while this makes TWO now for Saban.

why? if anything this shows the committee got it right. Twice now a non conf champ has came out the best team.

But it penalized Auburn for losing a game when they already beat bama and Georgia.

Can't believe I'm making an argument for Auburn. Only team I hate more than bama.
