When a team is clearly in the playoffs because they have numerous quality wins against good teams in the regular season, it seems dumb to punish them for playing one more very good team in a championship game. However, when the question mark about a team is that they are 0-1 against Top25 teams all season, doesn't considering how they do against another one in the conference championship game make sense? SMU may be in with a loss to Clemson but their resume at that point would be 0-2 against the Top25, with only 2 wins against teams even in the SP+ Top 40 and 9 games against teams in the 50s-80s.

Big 12 and ACC were a cake walk this year. SMU has played no one.

SMU has Texas oil money like nobody's business and can go toe to toe for elite recruits using NIL.

And they will.

Maybe he's a BYU fan since they would have quite a gripe if SMU loses to Clemson and makes the playoff.

Both SMU and BYU would have 2 losses with very similar schedules. BYU with a worse loss but better wins including a Top25 win AT SMU.

If they drop out, it will he the death of conference championships. Nobody comfortably in the top 10 will want to play

child please. They aren’t comfortably in the top 10 as Indiana and Boise ranked right behind them rounding out the top 10 have as tough of schedules as SMU according to fpi and the same record. they would be 0-2 against current top 25 teams if they lost to Clemson. This should be treated as a playoff game for SMU. If they win they get a bye in the playoffs which is granting them a hell of a lot since all it takes is 1 win against a mid Clemson team to give them a top 4 seed. If they lose there’s plenty of better teams that deserve that spot

No there are not better teams that deserve that spot.

They will be ranked 7th this week at the end of the regular season. Higher than Indiana that also has 1 loss.

If they did not have to play an extra game, they would be comfortably in. The SEC is not nearly as good as people on here want to make it out to be.

Georgia who will likely win the SEC need 8 OTs and a fricking screw job from the officials to beat Georgia Tech. A team that finished 6th in the conference SMU went 11-1 in

For CFP, committee wants Clemson to win, knock SMU out and find a way to get Miami and Alabama in but I’m not sure it’s possible.

South Carolina seems cooked at this point.
