Laetner deserved all the hate he got, and he enjoyed it. He was as dirty of a player possible

It's the number one reason why certain college basketball players are hated more than others.
A drunk college kid can yell anything at a white player, other than a pro-Hezbollah comment after his father was killed in a terrorist attack, and be fine. If they yell the same thing at a black player, that's just not going to fly. It's the opposite of the 1950s and 1960s.
If Laettner was Grant Hill and Grant Hill was Laettner, the quiet, non-confrontational white guy would always be the target of the student sections.
As for Duke hate, I think Ferry kind of started it as he was a truly dirty player, whereas Laettner just had his moments. But the backlash really started once Duke won it all (everyone was thrilled about UNLV Losing, but didn't want Duke to win it ever again, basically).

I watched Duke-Michigan on Youtube again last night. Jalen's negative body language and jawing is off the charts. I bet 19 year old Jalen would look at his current self, gaining 10 pounds a year and carrying a baseball bat around so Simmons and Jacoby can get some street cred, and think 43 year old Jalen is the biggest sell-out pussy ever.

No shite basketball fights get the "thug" label while other sports don't.
Do you see how these guys fight?!
I've said 100 times on here that it has much to do with how the fights go down. And every single fight they've shown so far backs up my hunch. Buncha insane arm flailing while not actually giving a shite who or what you punch, fake "hold me back" shite, and ganging up lone guys on the ground, kicking them and shite.
Basketball fights always seem to be that way. While hockey fights are much more, idk, respectful. Baseball is the sport that should get picked on more. Their fights get a bit "thuggish" at times.
