There's a good number of NFL starters on 2019 LSU too

My point is that comparing talent level is retarded. There’s no point. We know the talent level isn’t that of the NFL, but it is also above that of the NCAA.

The conversation seemed to be on the basis of “well the NFL is better and the XFL will never make it”.

As to the pace of play, it's fast, almost too fast. You don't really get much time to breathe and take in what just happened on the last play and celebrate/highlight the big plays. The pace of play in the NFL and NCAA can be a slog at times, but the XFL is almost too fast.

Add about 5 seconds to the play clock would be a happy medium and probably improve the offense a bit as coordinators have time to think a bit and aren't under the gun. Better play calling should result.

What the XFL has going for it that the AAF didn't is the XFL seems to be trying to create a competitive product through things such as rule improvements and better transparency in officiating.

The AAF did have mic'ed up refs, but for the most part it was just "we know we're offering sub-par football, but we're better than nothing!"

The XFL seems to be targeting problems with the NFL product and trying to improve on them. A lot of people (myself included) think SEC football is better than the NFL product despite the massive talent gap, so it's certainly possible for an upstart league to gain momentum despite the talent gap(though very difficult due to the natural monopoly of the NFL).

The pacing of NFL games is a huge turn off to a lot of people. The XFL is trying to address this (we'll see how well they do).

The officiating controversies in the NFL have become more than a conspiracy theory at this point. Broadcasting a live feed of the replay booth goes a long way to buy the goodwill of fans in this regard.

The XFL is taking steps to keep games and teams competitive (the variable extra point system, 2:00 warning, common practice squad pool). A huge problem I have with the NFL product is I'll turn on the TV to watch some football, and the game I happen to get at that time will be some crummy game that is basically over 10 minutes into watching. This is a difficult problem to solve, but at least the XFL is trying to do something about it. Most of the AAF games I watched were crappy teams getting beat up by less crappy teams.

I'm skeptical of this league because of how poorly McMahon's last attempt went, but having a successful secondary league is nothing but good for fans of televised football. The NFL is a trash organization that needs a kick in the arse.

Week 1 for the AAF had a peak of 2.9 million views compared to the XFL’s 4 million.

So players not kneeling is more important to you than the quality of football being played?

I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I enjoy the football break this time of year.

That’s basically what this weekend of football was. It was a bunch of 3rd and 4th string guys and washed up guys desperate to continue their playing careers instead of becoming car salesmen.

I’m not saying I dislike football.
But I love college basketball, and this is when it heats up.

Really wish it started in the summer when only baseball is on. Would have been perfect to kill the dead period between March Madness and Hockey playoffs to the start of football season.

Feels like the AAF was trying to be the NFL while XFL is just trying to be it's own thing. We will see where things go in the future though, but it's definitely been a fun first weekend.

Agree. I think the AAF was turning into a boring version of the NFL. I think the XFL is trying to live its own best life and ultimately will survive longer than the USFL.

It’s literally the old college rules of 25 seconds after the ball spotted

Key word. Meaning not good enough to still be in the league.
