Lol looks like the white trash Kentucky and Michigan fans are up in arms about this thread. You guys are so special because of the sports teams you root for. Which community college did you two attend? And no by definition I'm not projecting, I don't root for any blue bloods. Sports are just sports to me.

To be honest, I really can't think of a less exclusive club than being a Kentucky basketball fan lol. What sort of deluded mindset even goes into thinking that rooting for UK basketball is some sort of club that one gets into?

weird thing to say after getting so worked up over something like this, seems you're taking this just sports thing a tad too seriously.

I wasn't responding to you, don't give a shite who you root for. And no, again, I'm not projecting in any way in my general observation of portions of the fanbases of blueblood programs. Once again, I don't root for any blue bloods.

Just calling it like I see that it that big programs like UK, OSU, UM, Bama, etc. attract a lot of sad people (certainly not the whole fanbase) who don't have a lot going for them in life and attach themselves to those historically successful programs as a vehicle to feel validation in at least one part of their life. You see that right here in this very thread with a UK fan bragging about nothing more than being a UK fan.

He wasn’t bragging he said he was proud to be a fan of his favorite team.

Many of these sad people you describe have spent their lives attending games, donating to the athletic facility and building a great tradition on and off the Court. I don’t think it’s ridiculous for them to then be more passionate and proud and invested in their teams than a fan of old dominion. Or a casual fan who is too cool to care and is a hater to fans who do

He wasn't bragging? He literally said "you're not invited to the club. Sucks for you". Pretty clearly was bragging. I have no problem with passionate fans and love that about college sports.

Just with the blueblood fanbases you do see the aforementioned attitude where some think they are superior because of the team they root for. Again this is a well documented phenomenon with big programs where you have large swaths of the fanbases clinging on to the team's success as part of their identity.

I'm a Fightin' Texas Aggie

My mom is from Michigan and is a graduate of the University of Michigan. My dad is a graduate of Texas A&M. I grew up rooting for and still root for the sports teams of both schools.

Also, I'm not white

The thing I don't like about "blue blood" is that it gives ESPN an excuse to create "made for television" rivalries like last night. Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State, Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA and Indiana all play each other round-robin in November/December for ratings, and then they get brownie points in SOS and tournament consideration because "look at who they played!"

As for the Wichita States, Butlers and VCUs who have earned a chance to challenge the big boys--sorry, you're not invited. You didn't win a national championship in 1943.

The blue blood programs truly have the worst fanbases because you have a lot of sad, angry people that root for these teams to cling onto to something that makes them feel better than others.
would rather have that than jokes about having no fans...

The schools I mentioned in an earlier post already have tons of natural and built-in advantages when it comes to recruiting, fan bases, and national television appearances. I don't think ESPN needs to pile on and label them in front of impressionable teenagers and recruits just to justify their own obsession with these teams.
