re: Hypothetically, if you could get rid of NIL or transfer portal, which would you choose?

Neither are a problem. It's unrestricted transfers that are a problem.

Portal is the answer. And by going back to having to sit out a year you actually partially fix the NIL mercenary issue

In what world does making someone sit out a year make sense? In what other sport does anyone have to miss an entire year for anything? Do coaches have to sit out a year? Do AD’s?
I’ve never thought that sitting out a year was legit even before the limelight of today. It’s almost like 100 years ago the coaches got to together and came up with rules that no one one had ever heard of before to simply keep all the power. Seriously, that rule has never made sense. A kid doesn’t fit in or gets abused by scumbag coach and in order to transfer he has to give up 25% of his career. Glad that rule is gone. Now, coaches actually have to treat players like humans.

College sports are becoming trash because of both. Portal is worse...

Transfer portal. For team stability.

Ijust had this really warped idea and I like it a lot.
When a coach leaves in the middle of the school year, HE HAS TO SIT OUT A YEAR.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander never had a better NCAA .

Team stability? Then why don’t they just adjust the rule that you have 8 years of eligibility and can’t go pro until your 8th year is completed? That would create team stability.
The whole system is designed to exploit the players and you guys are fine with it. I am too. Just exploit them even more. If you sign, have a rule where none of your credits count toward a degree if you don’t play for 8 seasons and have all the schools have a rule where any team that accepts a transfer must pay a $5,000,000 donation the other school’s NIL collective. If you’re gonna go authoritarian then go all the way. Or go back to the old ways where all you gotta say is my grandma is sick and you can do whatever you want. Or that someone called me a bad name and hurt my feelings.

What a shitty post. In what other sport do you have unrestricted free agency?

An awful lot of whining going on. Unrestricted free agents? That’s a good one. Show me the contract the player signed that makes him an agent? They aren’t employees that’s why you can’t and that’s why they can transfer.
It’s an easy fix. The schools should just refuse to accept transfers. The6 don’t have to accept them. But the will because coaches, who started all ths with $100 handshakes, are greedy little idiots who want to win.
I love this system because it keeps coaches honest with players and it allows teams additional recruiting windows. I also enjoy watching the big boy teams lose depth which weakens them. Michigan win the Natty because Bama and UGA both lost depth and it caught up to them.

Easiest choice ever...NIL. The transfer portal gives players the same freedom of movement that the coaches already enjoy. Whereas NIL is not remotely related to Name, Image, Likeness but instead is just clearly "Pay for Play".

What a joke.
How many adult coaches bail for money? How many adult professionals bail for more money? How many adults bail on their spouse?
Coaches are EMPLOYEES who are navigating their chosen profession in something that has come to be called a CAREER. Collegiate athletes are amateur students who have come to that school to get an education and (if they are good enough) advance into the professional ranks to play their chosen sport as a profession rather than as an extracurricular activity.
There is a big difference between a grown man coaching for a living and a teenaged boy playing a sport for fun.

You’re the idiot that made the comparison to other sports. Well, other sports have guardrails in place to restrict movement.
Sitting one year isn’t some sort of prison sentence.
