Really? University and De La Salle have improved along with St Paul's recently. Notre Dame and Riverside are doing fine. Southern Lab is a power.

Maybe I am missing something here.

Yeah you are considering I said 4a and 5a might recombine. The privates in those classes are a shell of themselves.

Rummel, Shaw, Evangel. Surely you aren't going to tell me a Evangel that can barely score is doing great for themselves? Shaw can't wun a game. Rummel might win 6 games this year. Curtis has gotten slightly worse each year over the past 5 years. Catholic got drummed several times this year and probably would be a semifinalist at best in 5A. Holy Cross and Brother Martin aren't anything special. Who do you think is propping up the 4a and 5a privates so great?

Didn’t they pour it on Zachary last year? So the 5A champ would be a quarterfinalist at best in D1?

Shaw

Was bad for a while before the split. Nobody said we need to split because Shaw is dominating.

quote:

Rummel

I guess you can say they are down, but other than the year right before the split they weren't racking up championships. They were always a very good program but had down years here and there. They were 4-6 in 2010 then won 5a two years later.

Curtis

Not much worse if at all. They're just finally playing teams week end and week out that can match up with them physically and that takes its toll.

quote:

Catholic

Looks to be a better program to me than they were pre split, but like Shaw & Rummel nobody was saying we need to split because Catholic is dominating football.

They weren't anything special for a while before the split either.

Not saying anyone is propping 4A & 5A up. I'm just basically saying most of the private schools are pretty much the same as they were pre-split, Curtis/Evangel were in 2A so not taking titles from the big schools and the majority of 4A/5A schools still voted for the split. I just don't see how you think they've changed their minds and will decide to recombine. If anything I think you'll eventually get the split in the rest of the sports because the majority of those minor sports are dominated by the private schools.

Also, every proposal for just 1 or 2 classes to split has failed miserably. It's either all classes split or all classes combined. You'll never see 1A-3A split and 4A-5A combined it's all or nothing.

Shaw went to a state title 3 years in a row in 4a. Rummel won a 5a title. Evangel won 5a titles. Curtis was a mythical national champion. Those teams are nowhere near their former selves which is the reason for the split. The large privates just don't scare like they used to. Its not like there hasn't been discussion of returning. An obvious way it may happen is if we go to a 6a with the top 32 schools and any schools that wish to play up. You'd see publics and privates together again.

Was 4-6, 3-7, 5-6 the 3 years before the split, they had already dropped off and weren't winning titles anymore.

Rummel won a 5a title

Which was the only 5A title won by a private school other than Evangel ever.

quote:

Evangel won 5a titles

They sure did, and they were in 2A at the time when the split was voted for so the 5A school weren't even competing with them anymore and they still voted for the split, same for Curtis.

And every time it gets no support. So private schools try to propose shite like the Rural/Metro crap. You will never see anything with just a couple of classifications spit and if you think otherwise you cray. You will also never see something like the 6a super class because nothing is stopping a school like Curtis from just saying no thanks to competing in it and just play in their class or schools like Uhigh that can compete with anyone in the country yet just chill in lower classes.

that's why the LHSAA and LFCA need more control over that process

Do you really trust the LHSAA to properly put teams where they should be? They can't even enforce their own bylaws consistently most of the time.

Going back to 4 classes would be good and each class would have about 90 schools. B and C could be absorbed into A. I can at least feel sorry for C, but why does B have it's own class again when they have the same size as A? If anything that should be an advantage for them over the other schools in the sports they do sponsor because they can prepare longer.
when the enrollments come out for reclassification, you can bet ill find out how many students each classification has in 5A school equivalents... Using the 4A/5A cutoff, 5A will have more 5A school equivalents than they have schools, bc they are all bigger than the cutoff for the most part. Class C will be the equivalent of 4 or 5 5A schools. I think our small schools are overrepresented at the various state events.
