How would you fix ULM football?

Look at what the other smaller programs in the state have been able to do: ULL is as good as they’ve ever been, LA Tech is usually solid, even Tulane is starting to get better.
ULM is probably the worst program in the FBS. How do you even begin to rebuild?
Reach out to boosters to invest into better facilities? Hire a young innovative coach that’s not a washed up old-timer like Terry Bowden? Build a stronger relationship with the community? Or just pull the plug and drop back down to FCS?

Bowden and Rich Rod were great hires

A Rich Rod offense will do well in that league
Honestly maybe he should have been the head coach hire or he can replace Bowden at some point

Do what should have been done awhile ago, make ULM a Juco and fold the grad programs into La tech.

more $$$
This is all that really matters, along with a willingness to spend it.
Terry Bowden actually did a pretty good job at Akron and they've fallen apart without him. I can also see him playing well with donors. I think he and Rich Rod could actually end up being great hires for ULM. They weren't going to get some hot young coach to take that job.

There starting to do the right things i feel like. Having competed in athletics in mornoe there needed to be a change up top at president which happened. I liked Dr. Bruno as a person but he got in the way of the athletics program too much and pissed off too many alums. Dr. Barry is going to get the ship righted there.
Football wise they hit the coaching hire out of teh park, imo. They've brought in some big names that have solid resumes and can generate buzz around the program. If we can put together a competitive team in 2/3 years I think we can see it start to take off. Im not holding my breath but i can see things starting to head in the right direction

Yep. Mostly comes down to money, but still need the AD/Coach to make it happen. Need money to keep up with the facilities + amenities arms race, money for a big assistant coaching salary pool, an athletic director that understands and can sell this, and a coach that can win with all of that in place.
That formula is extremely hard to solve. See Texas.

Pissing Wickstrom off and letting him walk may have been the dumbest mistake ulm has made in the last decade plus. dude was a good ad

As I sit here and post from the shadows of Malone Stadium I'm taken back to a time when ULM beat Arkansas and almost took out Auburn and Baylor in 2012. The new hires hopefully have them going in the right direction. Plus the school got rid of the old soy President and hired someone younger who cares more about sports.

As a first step they need put Louisiana on their uniforms and in the End zones and on their courts. I do believe that nationally the crap USL has pulled has hurt them. They have every right to brand themselves Louisiana as much as USL.
Second, they need money and you have to wonder does NW Louisiana and the ULM alumni base have the money to build better facilities and pay coaches better?
Third, I would encourage them to play at least 3 road games on the year where they get a lot of money but get waxed by the likes of Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Texas, Florida, and even big ten programs like Minnesota, MSU, Purdue, Northwestern. College football matters the most in the South and Midwest. You won't help your brand or program by getting beat by Syracuse or Oregon State. When you pull of the occasional upset it will get noticed.
