Are you REALLY arguing Covid years are the norm when almost all major sports (NFL,MLB,NBA,P5 CFB) had record revenues the year before?

No. We are arguing that COVID has permanently changed many things and sports are one of those things.

Less fan interest= lower ratings+ lower attendance = less revenue = lower salaries

Oh. I took your OP as the opposite. Meaning a lower salary cap will lead to less interest. Not less interest will lead to a lower salary cap

He kind of was but which is it?

So the so called "decline" is due to Covid or other reasons listed?
Because none of the other reasons have resulted in less revenue...only Covid has.

Yes, I am. Its not that hard of a concept. Viewership (which pays the bills) has changed forever. The politics started it, the pandemic killed it.

Super Bowl 2017 - record views 172M eyes

2018 dropped to 9th place
2020 dropped to 10th
2019 dropped to 12th
2021 is 17th

You have more people alive, more ways to access media, and almost everyone locked up in their homes (during the dead of winter), and you still have 25M less viewers?

Those folks aint coming back. Sorry

Interesting take, but I think you’re wrong.

What are some others things that are never coming back?

I heard someone the other day that said indoor live music and concerts are never coming back and that even Broadway in New York is never coming back

Will things level off eventually?
I would assume so but when Amazon,Netflix,Facebook and Google start bidding on TV rights they could dwarf the current TV contracts.

Yep. This is what a lot of people are missing. The future of sports viewership is going to be through streaming services and the traditional ratings rankings haven't caught up yet on how to tabulate it. But they will.

The death of sports is greatly exaggerated. Will salaries level off? Yes. Will attendance dip? Yes. It has already started to due to people having more options to watch at home. But the leagues and streaming services will adjust. They always do.
