So if they just made a mark of how high some of the NBA guys could touch, how high would it be? I can dunk a basketball on a 7' rim ALL DAY LONG. I was just wondering how high these guys can jump since they make a 10' rim look so easy.

So 6'6" plus 30" vertical plus "how much reach do they have?"

11'6"?

Are there any records for this type of "total" vertical reach"?

That gotta be high...I saw the #s from one years draft and only like 2 guys were over 36. I was amazed....I thought they would be higher.

Here is a link...no step vert is under 30 for sure. LINK

No step is around 28 inches. Reach is around 8'6ish I would guess.

Here's a huge sortable list of draft prospects over the years. Enjoy

Average max vertical reach is around 11'8" or so.

gotta remember that these guys are extremelyt tall already, with crazy long reaches.

and a vert leap is really more of a show of your explosive power. Thats why ftball players generally have higher verts--they are more explosive athletes

You'll have to show some proof of that. I've never heard this before.

Vertical is way overrated as far as functional jumping goes.

Look at the results from any combine-- 6'4 300 OLs are consistently getting 32-33 inch verrts

I just watched a sports science with Dwight Howard on this topic.

He has the highest documented reach, over 12'.

I used to be able to get about half way up the square on the backboard in my younger days. I couldn't tell you what my vertical was back them, If I had to guess I would say the average NBA player would be about 26 or 27".

Which is funny because how often do you hear that someone has a 40 inch vert. I don't think people realize how sick a 40 inch very really is.

The problem is we're confusing terms. The 27" average is for no step verts. The 40" are max verts.

I used to be able to get my whole hand over the rim. My vert was around a 34/35
