good enough to hire Chip Kelly -

compare his post-season record to pre-Chip Kelly and you'll have your answer -

He sure tried to throw away the game last night. Horrible coaching in the second half.

I mean his DC was blitzing up 20 which made no sense.

It made sense to run the ball and play defense. You’re up 25 and need to win the game by 1

He was given a Les Miles type of situation. The program and mechanisms for winning were set up by his predecessor, but he's done a good job at maintaining that momentum.

NIL was a huge help for them as well. 3 of the 4 most impactful players on this team were playing somewhere else last year.

People say that but he won in year 6 meaning it is entirely his program by now.

The first couple years you could say it was still Urbans in part but that is done and gone

Les Miles best team was his 6th season as well. Much like Les, Day wasn't the one who set up the infrastructure that enables success. That said, you don't average over 11 wins a year if you aren't doing things well. A blank check handed to you never hurts either. Can't knock him for that, everyone would do what OSU did if they could.

Day hiring Chip Kelly was a great move, no doubt about that as well. Perfect spot for him to go without having to deal with all the BS of being a head coach.

Day is better than those two. He might not be a great in-game manager, but he deserves credit for keeping his team prepared and motivated for the playoff run.

I think Day is a good coach. I also think it is true he started on third base, so to speak. I find after watching him with his players after the game I like him more now than I did before the NC game.

His job security was debated after the Michigan game

I understand why some fans do this but fans are not really always rational. I would like to think the administrators/AD would not be so easily swayed where this is concerned.

Lesser coaches, particularly in the NIL/portal era, would've lost the locker room after Michigan IMO.

I think that is accurate to a degree. But I have seen coaches have some really bad seasons and still have the locker room. But those were also good coaches or at least good motivators.

He gets to be head coach of a very talented program. They are gonna win most of their games on that fact alone.

He managed to lose two games with that team that tore through the playoffs.

The Oregon loss was because of a terrible OPI as we all know

Michigan was a WTF game for sure. No excuses

However, in 2017 Auburn beat Bama and UGA and those two teams played for it all. No one cares about those auburn wins now sadly

Nope false.

OSU would have been in the 4 team playoff ahead of Texas and PSU.

Better wins resume and SOS with same# of losses. Pre 12 team that gets you in for sure

They were 6th in the AP poll prior to the CFP. They weren't going to get in.

Because the committee changed the way they ranked teams.

The AP poll doesn’t matter

I don’t think OSU would’ve been in. I do think ND would’ve been. My guess is it would’ve been 1) Oregon; 2) UGA; 3) ND; 4) Texas. We’ll obviously never know.

He does but it does show that simply winning 1 NC, while certainly a good thing, is not a good benchmark to show how good a coach you are. I would submit there are better coaches than Coker or Chizik who have never won a national championship.

This is fair.

Mark Richt immediately comes to mind.

Indeed, though the guy I immediately went to was Bo Schembechler.

Frank Beamer, Bill Snyder and Chris Peterson come to mind. Great coaches. Beamer had nearly 300 wins.
