re: How does Mike Tyson stack up with all time heavyweights?

Would Fraizer? Frazier handled Ali in his prime. Prime Tyson could've done the same. Also like Fraizer, Ali could've won his share as well. The beauty of these types of debates is all sides can be right and wrong.

I suspect Frazier would have taken Tyson in his prime too. Frazier wasn't afraid and had superior heart and drive compared to Tyson. Just look at the Thrilla in Manilla. Gut wrenching. Tyson would have folded in that scenario.

In his prime top 5 but like most greedy or addicted sports figures he retired 2 years past when he should have. His later fights were not good.

This site never disappoints.
There is no fighter in any time period that prime Tyson wouldn't beat. None. Not even Cascius Clay (refuse to call him by his draft dodging name). There's never been another anywhere near as explosive as Mike used to be.
His decline came on through a series of events - losing his trainer (the most important part), the Robin Givens bullshite (everyone knew she was full of shite), and Don King. Mike went from a death machine to a disaster, and we're all the lesser for it.

He's probably right outside the top 10 for me. Every legit fighter he fought beat him. Of course, there was the prison sentence that interrupted his career. But in head to head matchups, I could name 10 fighters that would rock Tyson's world. And several did. Lennox, Foreman, Ali, Liston, Vitali (but not Wlad), Tommy Morrison, Tyson Fury, Frazier, Evander to name a few. Any fighter that could weather the storm by virtue of range or chin normally beat Tyson.

No one hit harder or fought with more ferocity than Iron Mike in his prime. Dude was 50-6 all time with all of his wins being KOs most coming in the first fricking round. He wasn’t the most “skilled” boxer ever (that title probably belongs to Ali) but my god could he throw a punch. I’d almost rather be hit by a Mac truck at 60 mph that take a punch from Tyson in his prime.
But pound for pound…. Best boxer I’ve ever seen was probably Manny Pacquiao.
On a side note. Jake Paul damn sure ain’t that guy. Any half decent boxer would knock his arse out in minutes. He has atrocious form and leaves himself wide arse open. If he had fought Tyson in his prime tonight, Tyson would have knocked his arse out cold in less than 30 seconds.

True, but god help you if he ever got in on you and landed a few. You were going down.

Uh.. yes. 44 wins by KO. He had 50 bouts and lost 6. Do the math.
From the headlines today
Mike Tyson (50-6-0, 44 KOs) will step back into the ring for a bout against boxer and YouTuber Jake Paul (10-1-0, 6 KOs) on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Texas, United...

At his best, he was the best. It was just a short timeframe.
When he made real contact, it was over.

Exhibition matches maybe?
Pretty sure his “official” record prior to tonight was 50-6 with 44 KOs.
Dude was a straight up killer in the ring.

This, too
Tyson is 1 of 1 in sports history without being the “greatest”
There’s an alternate timeline where D’amato lives another 10 years while Don King never gets his hooks in Tyson and I would love to see how that turned out.
From everything I’ve read and watched, Tyson pre-D’amato and post-D’amato were like two different people. His defense was elite and he was as technically sound as anyone on top of his overwhelming power when Cus was around. Tyson would’ve still probably struggled against big, rangy 6’5” types like Foreman and Lewis tho.
If there’s one dream fight I’d love to see, it would be Tyson circa 1987-1988 squaring up against prime Ali or Frazier.

Mike was the greatest boxer that has ever lived.

Sugar ray was something else. Tyson though in his prime IMO nobody would have beat him. Dude was a pitbull

I think that at his peak (when he beat Spinks) he was the best heavyweight ever. No one in the history of boxing was beating him on that night. That said, for a career, he is probably Top 10-15 all-time among heavyweights.
