I think I would rather have Kaep than Stafford.

He is an average qb.

Saints fan here... Would have no problem with Colin replacing Drew. I doubt it ever happens though because Coach Payton offense doesn't revolve around that type of QB. Things do change though...

He's Aaron Brooks, you see the potential and when allowed to improv he plays great. Then when he has to play within the offense he isn't great. He will run and get hurt this year, the odds are pretty stacked against him. Superbowl year shouldn't count, Smith was the QB for over half the year.

W/O that defense he couldn't do what Luck did in the playoffs. He can't put the team on his back and carry them to victory using his arm and his legs. He isn't even close to Romo.

If he is elite, Brees/Manning/Brady must be Gods.

QBs are only as good as their mind though
This isn't stressed enough. A QB with limited physical ability (above some base threshold needed to play professionally) that understands the game, is generally preferable to a freak athlete with a limited ability to grasp the intellectual requirements of the position.

Luck, drafted one year after Kaep, does more with less defense, less rushing game for help, and with less talented receiving corps.

I'm not going to argue with you that Luck is a better QB than Kaep.

But i'm willing to bet that Kaep's numbers would be much better playing against the AFC South than they are playing against the NFC West.

I think he's pretty overrated but also insanely talented - maybe historically talented. His progressions in the pocket are below average a lot of the time, but then every once in a while he'll progress and make a great decision like checking down to the 4th option or busting it up the gut himself and they'll have a huge play. Streaky and scary.

Also the 49ers are smart/fortunate in having talent (and great playcalling) all around him to help his 1st or 2nd read be a decent option a lot of the time.

Colin impresses me in the way that he shakes off the haters. You can game plan for him all you want, but you're not gonna stop his shine. Na mean?

That is a good point. But the 49ers were basically, as a team overall, second to none in that division. The team being that good still overshadows him in my opinion.

Right now he is in the 7-10 range IMO

I feel like that's too high honestly. I think he's around the 10-15 range.

The elite quarterbacks are obvious, and unquestionably better than Kaepernick

Manning
Rodgers
Brady
Brees

Other quarterbacks I'd put over Kaepernick:

Rivers
Roethlisberger
Ryan
Luck
Romo
E. Manning - despite the awful season
Stafford
Wilson
Newton
Flacco

Quarterbacks that can be debated as better:

Cutler
Foles - not enough to go by yet
RG3 - Need to see what he does after the injury

He has the athletic ability to do some special things, but he's not close to be top tier yet.

tell me that isn't true through year 2 of their respective careers... Kaep has the defense and running game Brooks never had.

I just hope Frisco doesn't regret not having a veteran (like Alex Smith) during their window with an A+ defense. A guy with potential like Kaep sounds good until you realize your team that should have a ring or two doesn't

He gets a lot of hate on here because he doesn't dress like a frat boy and he plays for the 49ers.

People forget how few starts he has in this league. He improved a good bit over the course of 2013, 2014 will go a long way in finding out if he still has room to grow or if he is who he is.

A good quarterback who if he played for Seattle would have won the Super Bowl, and then all of the sudden be considered "elite."

Yes, this is a shot at Russell Wilson.

CK is significantly better than Wilson.

Wilson was a dumpster fire in so many games last - year - but with Seattle's D keeping them in every game...Wilson would need just one good quarter of play and then getting the accolades of "pulling it out at the end."

I wouldn't say significantly better.

But in my mind, it's no question that I'd take Kaepernick over Wilson right now.

he is an average QB with no touch, who has the best Oline and football and an elite defense.
