How did Jamarcus Russell never get another shot?

I don’t mean a starting job, a roster spot, or a practice squad spot. I’m talking a prove it deal in the preseason.
Ryan Leaf got another shot. Christian Ponder, Blane Gabbert, EJ Manuel. All got 2nd chances. Pretty crazy he never even got a camp invite.

I guess. There were reports and video of him working out and being in good shape a few years ago. Still never got a look.

Yes. He made a real comeback attempt in 2016. Weighed about 260, wrote letters to teams, etc.

To this day I think going to the Raiders did him in as much as anything. He went to a team with a crap culture where no one was held accountable. He made his own choices so no excuses, but I do think had he gone to the patriots his career would have been different.

He did get second chance, but his life coach fired him when he reported for tryouts with two teams weighing north of 288lbs both times.
