Why don't you give me one good reason to go play football for a bad team in BFE Kansas, especially if I'm a kid from a city.

As mentioned above, Kansas State plays in a more rural and remote area of the state than Kansas does, and they are a consistent Top 25 team. Heck, they were ranked #1 in the country as recently as 2012!

Kansas has a Top 5 all-time basketball program. That alone should be enough to lure potential recruits to the school. There is absolutely no excuse for them to have arguably the worst program in all of sports when it comes to their football team.

Honestly, I don't think their talent is all that much better. They're just coached better, and it's really hard to change the culture when you have nothing to offer. There's nothing there outside of football and the team is bad so there is no upside to being the guy to turn the program around.

Very little talent. And what talent they do have goes to Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas schools, etc.

But it still proves that it is possible to have a decent football team in the state of Kansas. No one expects them to be a Top 10 program. They just expect them to be competitive. I'd argue that it is just as difficult to go 15-81 in a P5 conference as it is to go 81-15 here in the modern era. There is absolutely no excuse for a school like Kansas to be that bad at a sport.

Same reason Bama is so bad at basketball. I mean they have their best team in a decade this year and they still might not make the dance

This is such a pointless topic. There are a plethora of reasons why Kansas sucks and is so bad at football.

Pose the question with Illinois instead of Kansas. Much more difficult to pinpoint why they are historically so bad.

We're not good at basketball, but we're not bad either.

That has no merit. Stop pointing that out.

Is Indiana football good? What about Duke? UConn? They've got good basketball programs. Why aren't there football teams any good?

I know their schedule was soft that year but Mangino winning the Orange Bowl with Kansas is low key one of the best coaching jobs ever.

Someone has to be bad. Cant have all 65 teams being good. Some teams have to be terrible. Just so happens its Kansas.

Kansas hasn't been the same since Blaine Gabbert threw for 303 yards on them...

BLAINE GABBERT!

They need to hire Frontbutt to turn the program around.

And Kansas was #2 in 2007 when they played #3 Mizzou.

Honest answer is that it is a state devoid of talent and that once they had a few bad seasons it spiraled out of control. It is really hard to ever break into being good again.

3 of the current 10 Big 12 teams have somewhat recently fired their best coaches of all time amid some sort of scandal. Those happen to be the teams that finished 8, 9, and 10 this year....

They fired Mangino over some mistreatment bullshite. They haven't recovered from that.

ETA: They won the Orange Bowl under Mangino. He had a system that worked for them.

Because Turner Gill and ole Charlie dug a hole so deep that a staff of Belichick, Parcells, and Saban couldn't get us out of right now.

People forget that we went 5-7 Mangino's last year (after starting 5-0). The slide had already started, and then when he was fired the next hire had to be perfect and it wasn't.

Turner Gill caught lightning in a bottle for one season at Buffalo and got hired at Kansas because of it. It was similar to Darrell Hazell going from Kent State to Purdue

yeah, but he wasn't freaking Nick Saban when he first started there. he built them up.

He might be.

I very much doubt Saban could do at Kansas State what Snyder has done (is doing) and I very much doubt Snyder could win at LSU and Alabama like Saban has.

Gill is long gone and Beaty will need his best season just to equal Weis' win total in fewer years.
