Exactly.

Crosby has been the biggest celebrity in Pittsburgh for 20 years and that's included Roethlisberger and Jerome Bettis. Hines Ward came the closest in that department but Sid is revered. And rightly so, he's a top-5 all-time player.

In D.C. and in Pittsburgh. No athlete that's building their brand is doing it to be big locally. Crosby might be huge in Pittsburgh but he obviously ain't shite compared to Roethlisberger in terms of national brand.

It not “all about me” what a dipshit. With all the constant action going on , it’s the ultimate team game.

Disagree here.

Crosby is so generationally/all-time great that his brand is known nationally,.even by novice/non-hockey fans

It's also helped that he's won 3 Cups,.played for a 4th, and has won a gold medal.

But in the broader sense, you are correct. Sid is the exception. Ovi the same.

Also, for as great as Ben was, he's almost universally disliked and was a known a-hole in his younger days(he's matured now). Crosby is universally liked and respected and is an all-around great dude.

Those two have the biggest brands presently in hockey, they are not close to Roethlisberger's at all.

Skenes is definitely taking that mantle from Sid. Only thing is that the Buccos suck.

Crosby & Ovi are international superstars. Sid is s revered in Canada and Ovi is a Russian national hero. Big Ben ain't got anything close to that brand.

You’re underestimating the recognition of someone who played in three Super Bowls and won two, on the fringes of the best QB conversation for a decade nationally

It’s cute that people think hockey players are just good genuine team focused white guys when the reality is it has everything to do with money.

Soccer has essentially all of the characteristics of team play that hockey does, is also full of white players, and yet it’s full of prima donnas. Why? Because the contracts are massive.

If hockey ever becomes a popular sport it will have the same problems.

You don't understand hockey players and the mentality. I'm submersed in this. I've played it growing up, coached it for the last 15+ years, had my oldest play through Tier 1 Midgets and Juniors, and have coached players that are currently playing college hockey.

Hockey players are different because the culture weeds the selfish players out of the system. You have a rep as being a problem you don't advance in levels and make the next team.

Also, players police themselves, especially in Junior hockey. They have their own team structures with Captain's group and Team Court that keeps the team in line.

Follow these hockey teams and they'll talk about "the culture of the room". Prima donnas are not tolerated in that environment. Everybody has to be a good teammate and earn their ice. It's a badge of honor to be a good teammate.

Well this is certainly a take that's totally off-base
