Disclaimer, I didn't do this so feel to disregard my advice. I've coached a little bit though.

The only way he will get out of it is to relax about it. Tell him to just concentrate on making contact with the ball. The problem I see with some hitters is they get too eager to smash the ball when they are in a slump. Solid contact is always the best bet.

Take him to an eye doctor. Most slumps are because you're not seeing the ball. It is possible to get contacts that make your vision BETTER than 20-20. It makes a huge difference in tracking the pitch.

Tell him to keep swinging. He will eventually break out.

I got back to basics, hitting off the tee, etc. Depending on the level I'd also try to attack fastballs. And mostly just relax and not press too much, which is the hardest part.

Thanks these are all things we r doing. He started off slow but was hitting the ball hard everwhere just right at people, but now he is so fixated on the fact that he is not getting hits he is a mental mess striking out rolling over etc etc .

Slumpbuster is the only sure fire way to snap him out of it. Give him a few days off and get his mind off of baseball. Slumps happen mostly b/c you start to press - needs to relax and just have fun and remember its a game.

90% mental 50% physical

If you don't have a strong mind, baseball will eat you alive. Tell him to man up and stop worrying about striking out, everone does it. If he's up there thinking about fricking up, he'll frick up. Tell him to just go up there, look for a fastball and attack. LOok for it early in the count and jump on it.

Sometimes it just takes time to break it. But it does become almost completely mental. Patience is the key

Tee work, soft toss, and flips....lots of them. Just get him seeing the ball better and more comfortable with his swing. He will get past it and it happens to everyone.

If he's in high school, and he doesn't have excellent coaching, take him to a good hitting coach. This should fix any technique issues, and it should help his confidence as well.

Two things me and my dad used to do, all through high school and college. First we were definitely in the cage, tees drills, soft toss and regular BP. Secondly he used to tell me "Hey it's a party all you have to do is dance!" Worked like a charm and the quote always got me to relax and hit seeds.

It's actually a quote from one of the greatest to ever play the game. Way to look like a dumbass though.

Don't do anything, technique wise.

Find a way to loosen him and have him realize it's all for fun. Just get him to relax.

Tell him to try and hit the ball up the middle, hard lined shot at the pitchers feet. Worked for me. Kept the focus in a single straight line only 60 ft away instead of all over the field. Seems to bring back the basics of just putting the barrel on the ball without over swinging.

I know what Yogi said and 90% of your quote was right, the other half wasn't.
