No, even for the good programs it’s usually just parents in attendance

I played for a bit in 2A for a private school in Baton Rouge (and followed how they did after I quit) and we were pretty decent. Competitive in the city, even against some bigger schools in 3A, 4A, and 5A.

We played a couple of Texas teams and lost by 10+ every time. And they weren't even the really good Texas teams

ETA:

And only parents go.

A. Because its soccer and not huge in the South.

B. Its often cold AF.

I've been to a few girls games, but only because of family.

Wish I could get to some st Paul's games.

Thats not really what high school sports are about. I played and I cared. So did my coaches and teammates. Seems like plenty to me.

The state championship games always got pretty solid crowds at Tad Gormley when I was in school from 09-13

I went to a pretty good 5a school, and we used to draw pretty decent crowds for district games and huge crowds for the playoffs.

Weather can be brutal though, tough to draw a good crowd when the wind chill is under 30 degrees out.

I know they've structured things different now, less district games and more friendlies w/ the 'power rankings' system. Idk how that's affected things.

Is Jesuit still the top dog?

I'll be honest and say when I graduated in 01. High school just seemed to become important. Personally, I felt high school soccer was more a fun time than actual seriousness. Club/select/premier whatever was way more serious and way better soccer.

Seems to have switched now and high school is getting bigger. maybe because I haven't been around it in 15 years so I don't notice it though.

I think high school soccer will continue to grow because of parents being afraid of the CTE thing in football.

It's just a shame that soccer sucks so bad.

Same.

We had a few guys play on club teams and they definitely took that more seriously. That is also where the college scouts used to go, not some Baton Rouge private school game.
