Hopefully he's not confusing Ben Wallace with "scorer"

He's very good, but no. Chris Paul is a great PG.
Then Chris Paul is the only great PG in the NBA. He's the only one head and shoulders above Kyrie

quote:First off, that is an absolutely idiotic way to measure the worth of a position.
It's been over 2 decades since a PG was the best player on a championship team.
Secondly, the term "best player" is usually reserved for the star, and the star is usually the person who scores the most points.
Just because one player is a scorer doesn't mean he is the "best player" on the team.

You said those Iverson "teams" that went to the Finals

Rondo
A few years ago I would have said Deron Williams.

No but he is confusing Ben Wallace with that team's best player. How can a player who can't score unless its a dunk (Wallace) be a team's best player?

Rondo is not head and shoulders above Kyrie

That team had Billups, Rasheed, and Rip Hamilton when they were good.

Ben Wallace was absolutely the best player on that Pistons team. They won because of a suffocating defense. Who do you think was the anchor of that? Chauncey fricking Billups or Ben Wallace?
But alas, Ben can't score worth shite, so of course he has no shot at NBA FInals MVP.

Ask the Thunder if having a decent PG matters when contending for championship.
Posted on 1/24/13 at 11:58 pm to MrWiseGuy
Wasn't Eric snow the point guard on that 76ers squad anyway with iverson playing the 2?
And penny as a point all the way

Solid year. I don't think Penny could count under PG though.

Rondo is not head and shoulders above him but rondo is probably a top 15 player. He drops triple doubles like crazy. Bill simmons has him in his top 10. Derrick rose when healthy is almost on Paul's level. I love rose, and I'm glad he got an MVP, but Paul had two years in a row that were better than rose's MVP year and he got the shaft.

Best defender certainly, but best player? Who do you think was creating opportunities for him to score?
ETA: Its hard to pick a 'best player' on that team. Such a cohesive unit

He doesn't score quite as often, but his assist/game average is doulbe Irving's. Rondo can score if he wants, but that typically isn't his game. He runs the show in Boston though.

Top tier:
Chris Paul
Westbrook
Kyrie Irving
Rondo
Tony Parker
Deron Williams
Edit: WHOA, forgot Derrick Rose
Edit #2: John Wall?
Not top tier
quote:
Stephen Curry
Monta Ellis (whichever is the PG)
Brandon Jennings
Jrue Holliday
Kemba Walker
Greivis Vasquez
Curry is in tier 1 and Ellis is a two guard, Jennings is the 1, Holiday is the start of the second tier.
quote:
Kemba Walker
Greivis Vasquez
neither one of these guys are better than Felton or Nash

On my phone, so I can't highlight "he runs the show in Boston."
Boston is two games under .500. And Rondo plays with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
Kyrie plays with Tyler Zeller and Dion Waiters.
Yes, I know what Rondo has done in the past. But right now, today, he is not head and shoulders better than Kyrie.

Like I say, up for discussion.
I'd take a healthy Wall over Curry
