A buddy of mine described it pretty perfectly: If you're going to have something terrible on TV, make it super terrible and act like its super serious and people will watch.

The 5 commentators were on permanent Gus Johnson scream mode the entire time. I had no idea what was going on but all the screaming made me excited for whatever it was.

The link you reference doesn't have sentences.

I see now, the note at the top. Keep telling yourselves that this isn't going to explode and you are the demographic that will die happy without understanding where things are going.

Oh, it's definitely a market that's just waiting to explode. We already see people making a living off it and companies are beginning to tap into the market.

It's just that note at the top made me

it is no different than showing poker or any of the other multitudes of "sports" they show on ESPN.

Exactly. They show fricking baseball all the time, so everything should be fair game, IMO.

There is no doubt there is a market for it, I mean that pewter pie guy makes like 10 mil a year from YouTube alone and all he does is act like a 13 yr old girl from what I have seen, but that link was funny

I used to watch eating contests for this exact reason. And I'm talking things besides Nathan's Hot Dogs on the 4th. My favorite thing I ever heard was the commentators introducing Cookie Jarvis trying to break the corn eating record.

"Today, Cookie will be taking on corn, or as the Native Americans called it maiz, which is Native American for corn."

That's very common. Maybe not quite that much but medium sized Twitch streamers make 1k+ per day from donations alone.

ESPN started broadcasting poker a long time ago. POKER. It takes about the same level of athleticism to play video games as it does poker.

More actually. The reflexes and hand-eye coordination these guys have is amazing. Additionally there is a ton of teamwork involved unlike Poker.

That was the stupidest shite I have ever seen on ESPN. Makes a spelling bee seem exciting.

yeah I saw some shite with UC Berkley vs Arizona State and I was waiting to see students competing in something. I was confused. Had to turn it after a minute of watching.
